About The Position

The City of Birmingham, (EOE), is seeking qualified candidates for the seasonal position of Events and Farmer's Market Assistant with the City's Birmingham Shopping District. The qualified candidate will perform a wide variety of customer service and event related functions. The Events and Farmers Market Assistant will be required to assist with assembly and teardown of the weekly Farmers Market on Sundays between May and October, as well as other events throughout the year as scheduled. This position will require frequent interaction with vendors, sponsors, and members of the public. Candidate is expected to attend the Birmingham Farmers Market from 7:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. on Sundays starting the first Sunday in May and ending the last Sunday in October , in addition to other events that take place on evenings and weekends throughout the season including but not limited to Outdoor Movie Nights, Day On The Town and Birmingham Cruise Event.

Requirements

  • Experience in a customer service related field
  • Must be able to communicate effectively
  • Must be able to provide great customer service to patrons, vendors, sponsors, etc.
  • Must be able to work on Sundays
  • Must be able to be reliable and prompt
  • Must be able to meet the physical and environmental requirements as follows

Responsibilities

  • Assisting with set up, tear down and other event-related activities at the Farmers Market each Sunday and other events as scheduled.
  • Setting up canopies/tents and canopy weights, chairs and tables/picnic tables.
  • Distributing and maintaining trash boxes throughout the event area for the duration of the event, including general cleanup including picking up trash and disposing of trash bags.
  • Utility set up such as water connection or electrical hookup.
  • Assisting vendors and patrons as needed.
  • Storing and locking up equipment after event.
  • Placing directional signs at major intersections and throughout event as needed.
  • Gathering data at events by tracking attendance, and soliciting and collecting survey responses.
  • Manning the Information Tent, answering questions and assisting vendors and patrons.
  • Serve as a team lead for volunteers.
  • Additional related duties as assigned.
