About The Position

The Evening Custodian prepares Lakeside Middle School for the return of students and staff each morning by resetting classrooms, caring for shared spaces, and securing the building before the end of the shift. This position operates independently while maintaining connection with school users and staff, exercising judgment when spaces need attention or evening activities alter plans. The role provides a steady sense of order, contributing to a comfortable and welcoming school environment.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent, if the District has determined this education is necessary for the position.
  • Ability to follow written instructions, product labels and established safety procedures.
  • Ability to use email and District work-order or communication systems.
  • Ability to organize assigned work and complete routine responsibilities independently.
  • Ability to communicate respectfully with staff, students and community members.
  • Ability to recognize building concerns and determine when assistance is needed.
  • Ability to safely use custodial equipment after training.
  • Ability to perform the essential physical functions of the position, with or without reasonable accommodation.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous custodial, housekeeping or facilities experience.
  • Experience using commercial cleaning equipment.
  • Experience completing minor building maintenance.

Responsibilities

  • Complete daily cleaning and sanitizing throughout the school building.
  • Sweep, vacuum, and mop floors as needed.
  • Dust surfaces and wash furniture, walls, or fixtures.
  • Clean windows and apply floor-care products.
  • Collect garbage, clean waste containers and operate assigned custodial equipment.
  • Move furniture or equipment safely when cleaning rooms or preparing spaces for use.
  • Remove snow from assigned walkways or steps.
  • Apply de-icing materials to hard-surface areas as needed.
  • Follow the direction of the principal or maintenance supervisor.
  • Organize daily responsibilities and complete assigned work independently.
  • Help plan custodial schedules and coordinate work based on building needs.
  • Secure classrooms and other designated areas at the end of the shift.
  • Complete established closing procedures for the building, including exterior areas and the parking lot.
  • Set up spaces for schoolwide activities or facility use, including board meetings and events held in the gym.
  • Return spaces to their regular arrangement afterward.
  • Provide student supervision at the end of the school day when requested by the principal or supervisor.
  • Communicate with staff and students regarding building needs.
  • Maintain regular communication with the Maintenance Department.
  • Work with other custodial and maintenance employees to complete summer cleaning or facility projects throughout the District.
  • Provide direction and assistance to groups using Nine Mile Falls School District facilities for extracurricular activities or other approved events.
  • Complete general maintenance and minor repairs within the employee’s training and assigned responsibilities.
  • Report work requiring specialized repair or additional assistance.
  • Maintain courteous and helpful interactions with students, staff and community members using District facilities.
  • Identify building safety concerns.
  • Address concerns within the employee’s assigned responsibilities or promptly report them to the appropriate supervisor.
  • Plan and organize cleaning during non-school hours based on the needs of a larger school facility.
  • Adjust the order of assigned work when evening activities affect access to spaces.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned by the supervisor.
