About The Position

The Evacuation Coordinator supports field courses based out of Lander, the Rocky Mountain River Base (RMRB), and Three Peaks Ranch in a variety of circumstances via the evacuation phone. The Evacuation Coordinator works closely with the Evacuation Manager and Leadership Team at Rocky Mountain locations to coordinate all aspects of in-field support as well as instructor and student field evacuations. This role supports instructors and students in the field through logistical, medical or behavioral issues. This role is crucial to the function of successful field courses.

Requirements

  • Attention to detail with organization of paperwork and evac office systems.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills to support instructors, students, and parents during challenging or emergent situations. This includes listening intently, asking questions, and maintaining a calm, helpful presence.
  • Ability to task-switch quickly between field phone calls and organizing logistics, while keeping track of all details related to different situations being managed simultaneously from the field.
  • Be able to think creatively in relation to field evacuation logistics, student support in town and utilizing team resources.
  • Be a team player, within the program department and throughout all NOLS Rocky Mountain departments. Contribute to an environment that encourages field staff and students to feel relaxed, supported, and focused going into the field and while on course.
  • A criminal background check is required from all NOLS employees.
  • NOLS participates in e-verify for U.S. employees, Certificado de Antecedentes for Chilean or Mexican employees, and other relevant employment verification systems based on location.

Responsibilities

  • Carry the evacuation phone 24/7 for 3-5 days and nights in a row.
  • Facilitate the experience of evacuated or expelled students with respect, compassion, and accountability.
  • Coach field staff on risk management documentation and decision making; contribute to NOLS Accepted Field Practices updates and development.
  • Support Three Peaks Ranch and the River Base with evacuation concerns as necessary.
  • Calculate evacuation expenses for students and submit reports to the NOLS finance department.
  • Train field and program staff on all aspects of the Rocky Mountain evacuations (protocols and procedures, documentation and paperwork, challenging phone conversations).
  • Collaborate and work closely together with the Evacuation Manager to create vision and systems for the Evacuation office.
  • Must be an active NOLS field instructor.
  • Coach instructors regarding evacuation, student performance/behavioral issues, and course dynamics.
  • Supervise and coordinate logistics for Rocky Mountain evacuations.
  • Make parent/emergency contact phone calls related to student behavioral issues and/or evacuations. Communicate decision-making and next steps with clarity to emergency contacts.
