About The Position

This role supports the Systems Engineering & Integration (SE&I) efforts for the Portable Life Support System (PLSS) within the broader EVA suit architecture. The engineer will help shape system concepts, requirements, interfaces, and verification strategies that ensure the PLSS operates as part of a cohesive EVA suit system. Success in this position requires strong coordination with subsystem engineers, program management, and NASA partners throughout the design and test lifecycle. We are actively searching for qualified candidates for this potential opening; however, we do not have assurance at this time when the position will be finalized and opened. Because we have strong reason to believe the position will be approved soon, we are proceeding with identifying qualified candidates and conducting interviews.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Mathematics, Science, or a related discipline (master's degree preferred).
  • Five or more years of experience performing systems engineering and integration activities, or three years combined with a relevant master's degree.
  • Systems engineering experience in EVA development, operational support, or testing environments is beneficial.
  • Demonstrated familiarity with the full systems engineering lifecycle, including requirement definition and decomposition, development of system architecture, creation of technical performance measures, and V&V planning and execution.
  • EVA domain experience is preferred.
  • Experience using requirements management databases such as Jama, DOORS, or similar tools.
  • Strong ability to evaluate technical tradeoffs, anticipate integration risks, and communicate findings clearly.
  • Proof of U.S. Citizenship or US Permanent Residency may be a requirement for this position.
  • Must be able to complete a U.S. government background investigation.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with incorporation of AI technology in project processes for increased efficiency.
  • Proven success delivering reliable software under fast‑changing program conditions and challenging deadlines.

Responsibilities

  • Define system‑level constructs such as operational concepts, functional decompositions, and interface expectations while developing detailed subsystem requirements aligned with stakeholder needs.
  • Prepare, schedule, and carry out verification activities for PLSS‑related requirements, ensuring closure through documented objective evidence.
  • Support development of EVA system architecture by coordinating product breakdown structures, identifying interdependencies, and maintaining configuration alignment as design changes occur.
  • Track PLSS performance through integrated assessments, monitoring system behavior across design iterations and test results, and raising concerns when metrics drift.
  • Draft and process waivers, variances, or design exceptions as required, ensuring rationale is technically supported and properly communicated.
  • Prepare and deliver status updates on PLSS engineering progress and emergent issues to program leadership and external stakeholders.
  • Collaborate closely with subsystem engineers, project office personnel, and external customer teams to align system engineering schedules, deliverables, and technical approaches.
  • Contribute to Agile development workflows, using tools such as Jira, Jama, and Confluence to help coordinate systems engineering tasks and document technical decisions.
  • Other duties as required.
