EU493 B6: First Nations, Métis, and Inuit (FNMI) Topics in Educational Contexts (Winter 2027)
About The Position
This course is designed to help Teacher Candidates to learn how to effectively meet the needs of First Nations, Métis, and Inuit learners in the classroom and connect non-Indigenous learners to Indigenous knowledges, worldviews, and related practices through relevant and meaningful academic programming and co- curricular activities. To be examined are topics related to sovereignty, identity, land treaties, language reclamation and revitalization, environment sustainability, as well as historical and contemporary topics impacting Indigenous self-determination in the Canadian sociocultural and socioeconomic landscape. Successful candidate will work with the course lead in order to provide consistency across sections.
Requirements
- Master’s degree in Education or Indigenous Studies or Indigenous Knowledge Keeper
- Teaching experience with K-10 students in FNMI topics and/or lived experience as an Indigenous person (as per Laurier verification process)
- Evidence of leadership and/or scholarship in the area of FNMI in schools
- Education or Indigenous Studies discipline
- FNMI areas of specialization
