About The Position

This position is within the Data Warehouse team at the Colorado Department of Education (CDE). The Information Management Services (IMS) unit provides technology, systems, and information to help fulfill CDE's goals. The role involves developing, maintaining, and enhancing Informatica Extract, Load, and Transform (ETL) processes to load data from the Operational Data Store (ODS) and external data sources to the Data Warehouse. It also includes developing ETL processes for Data Marts and file creation for federal reporting, following the Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC). The position may also perform Informatica Administration functions, consult with business users to gather requirements, and assist with project planning and documentation. The work aims to turn data into impact for CDE, supporting education across Colorado.

Requirements

  • Three (3) years of relevant professional experience in data integration (SSIS), data warehouse management, or database administration.
  • Experience in Data integration with systems like Informatica, SSIS, or other ETL tools.
  • Experience in data warehouse management that included dimensional data modeling, index mgt, etc.
  • Experience with Informatica IDMC / Informatica Cloud or PowerCenter with migration exposure.
  • Experience supporting or administering Informatica environments.
  • Strong SQL skills with Oracle databases.
  • Experience working with stored procedures and database-driven logic.
  • Experience supporting ETL testing, validation, and issue resolution.
  • High level of proficiency with the Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) process.
  • At least two (2) years of development experience as an Informatica developer, including requirements gathering, data mapping, developing new mappings, transformations, and workflows.
  • Experience with UNIX/LINUX scripting.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Ability to effectively balance quality of work and productivity expectations.
  • Ability to effectively collaborate with internal and external customers (i.e. school districts, other CDE units, etc.).
  • Ability to prioritize and organize work to accommodate and meet the changing needs of the department and meet deadlines.
  • Takes initiative and exhibits a proactive approach to work.
  • Identifies problems and recommends solutions prior to the standard being jeopardized.
  • Ability to work independently, as well as on a team.

Nice To Haves

Responsibilities

  • Develop, maintain, and enhance Informatica Extract, Load, and Transform (ETL) processes to load data from the Operational Data Store (ODS), Assessment collections, and external data sources to the Data Warehouse.
  • Develop, maintain, and enhance Informatica ETL processes for Data Marts and file creation for federal reporting.
  • Follow the Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) process, including gathering functional and detailed requirements, developing software, unit testing, migrating software to QA for testing and approval, and migrating approved software to production with runbooks and schedules.
  • Utilize and develop best practices in ETL development.
  • Consult directly with business users, business analysts, and decision-makers to gather and document requirements and define scope.
  • Develop or assist with "data models" to help define project scope and requirements.
  • Assist with project plans, facilitate meetings, and assist with estimating and planning project deliverables and dependencies.
  • Attend planning sessions with internal customers to review upcoming enhancement requests and requirements for existing ETL processes and reports.
  • Research the background of requested enhancements to understand legislative requirements or educational practices driving the requests.
  • Keep existing documentation up to date with changes and modifications.
  • Create new detailed documentation for new solutions and reports, including documentation for Informatica objects, comments in SQL code, and updates to requirements and design documents.
  • Coordinate and conduct training and testing for business analysts and other end-users.
  • May perform Informatica Administration functions, including software installation, tuning, defining best practices, and troubleshooting and resolution.
  • May require primary contact with the tool vendor or third-party vendors.
