About The Position

Waltham Public Schools is seeking dynamic Special Educators for our ESY program to support students in Moderate Disabilities classrooms and specialized Tutoring sessions at all levels. This role is designed for students who require targeted academic maintenance in a less restrictive environment than our sub-separate programs. The successful candidate will be responsible for designing and delivering specialized instruction in reading, written expression, and mathematics, provided through both small-group classroom settings and 1:1 or small-group tutoring blocks. Teachers will review student IEPs to ensure all mandated services and accommodations are delivered with fidelity while maintaining accurate data logs for all IEP benchmarks. In addition to direct instruction and tutoring, the teacher will manage classroom logistics, coordinate student transitions during bus/van duties, and maintain consistent communication with parents. The position concludes with the drafting of participation summary reports for each student on the caseload.

Requirements

  • Valid license in Special Education (Moderate Disabilities).
  • Ability to support students requiring targeted academic maintenance.
  • Ability to deliver specialized instruction in reading, written expression, and mathematics.
  • Ability to review student IEPs and ensure mandated services and accommodations are delivered with fidelity.
  • Ability to maintain accurate data logs for IEP benchmarks.
  • Ability to manage classroom logistics.
  • Ability to coordinate student transitions during bus/van duties.
  • Ability to maintain consistent communication with parents.
  • Ability to draft participation summary reports.

Nice To Haves

  • Certification or experience in phonetic-based reading interventions, such as Wilson or Orton-Gillingham.

Benefits

  • Compensation: $40.00 per hour
  • Total Stipend: $5,600.00
