About The Position

Appraises vehicle damage to determine cost of repair for insurance claim settlement.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or GED, 1 to 2 years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
  • Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.
  • Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
  • Ability to compute discount, commissions, and percent.
  • Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
  • Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

Responsibilities

  • Examines damaged vehicle to determine extent of structural, body, mechanical, or interior damage.
  • Estimates cost of labor and parts to repair or replace each damaged item.
  • Determines feasibility of repair versus replacement of parts, such as bumpers, fenders, and doors.
  • Evaluates practicality of repair as opposed to payment of vehicle market value before accident.
  • Prepares insurance forms to indicate repair cost estimates and recommendations.
  • Estimates cost of repainting, converting to special purposes, or customizing undamaged vehicles.
  • Helps maintain good working relationships with insurance adjusters.
  • Established and maintains good working relationships with customers to encourage repeat and referral business.
  • Follows up on parts department order to ensure parts availability.
  • Monitors progress and completion of assigned vehicles in the shop, ensuring proper repair procedures are followed.
  • Checks quality of completed work.
  • Monitors paper flow to ensure that all documents are accounted for, filled out completely and legibly, and filed or distributed to the appropriate parties.
  • Prepares final billing for completed repair orders.
  • Controls assigned accounts receivables for body repair work.
  • Completes ICAR training classes as required.
