About The Position

The Estimator provides direct support to the Preconstruction and Operations group via quantity takeoffs, trade partner buyouts, and cost estimating. Interface directly with architects and engineers as required. Participate in developing cost estimates and proposals for assigned bid opportunities. Perform quantity take-offs and generate estimates. Prepare comprehensive and accurate cost estimates reflecting the impacts from labor, materials, equipment, subcontractor and other costs. Participate in bid solicitation and trade partner selection. Buy out select trade packages, evaluate bid details and exclusions, include comprehensive scope value for final estimate. Analyze variance between estimates and clearly describe changes. Identify plan discrepancies and opportunities for value engineering. Negotiate with trade partners and vendors. Develop and maintain relationships with local trade partners and vendors for ongoing negotiations and future bids. Assist in other duties as assigned, relevant to the achievement of the position’s and team’s objectives.

Requirements

  • 1-2 years in the construction industry in a similar or related role.
  • Bachelor’s degree in construction management, cost engineering or related degree program, or equivalent work experience.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of methods of construction practices and project execution.
  • Ability to read construction plans and specifications.
  • Practical knowledge of construction trades.
  • Mathematical acuity.
  • Excellent communication skills and must work collaboratively in a team environment with a spirit of cooperation.
  • Excellent organization skills and can consistently meet deadlines.
  • Comfortable with Microsoft Office, with solid proficiency in Excel.
  • Must possess a valid driver's license and a satisfactory driving record in accordance with Fortis policy.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in cost estimating programs (ACC, WinEst, Accubid or other relevant system.)
  • Experience working in Bluebeam, BuildingConnected, Excel formats and formulas.
  • Cost Engineering certifications are a plus.
