About The Position

Volker Stevin Canada and its subsidiaries deliver high-quality construction, civil works, highway maintenance, bridge construction, and asphalt/aggregate services across Western Canada. Our reputation is built on safety, quality, integrity, and long-term client relationships. We are seeking an experienced Estimator to join our Contracting Division in Calgary. This role is critical to the successful pursuit and execution of civil construction projects within the City of Calgary and surrounding areas. The Estimator is responsible for preparing accurate and competitive cost estimates while supporting project execution through scheduling, cost control, procurement coordination, and collaboration with Project Managers and field teams.

Requirements

  • More than five (5)years of estimating experience in heavy civil or road construction, or a combination of field and estimating experience.
  • Strong competency in reading and interpreting civil construction drawings and specifications.
  • Advanced mathematical aptitude and cost analysis skills.
  • Ability to work independently while contributing effectively to a team environment.

Nice To Haves

  • C.E.T. or P.Eng. designation preferred; equivalent experience will be considered.
  • Experience with Ineight Estimating and project execution software as well as experience with Microsoft D365 is an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare detailed andaccuratecost estimates for tenders, lump sum bids, and budget pricing.
  • Review and interpret tender drawings, specifications, and contract documents.
  • Complete quantity takeoffs and develop comprehensive bid submissions.
  • Attend pre-tender meetings and conduct site visits asrequired.
  • Solicit and evaluate subcontractor and supplier quotations.
  • Identify cost risks, discrepancies, and scope gaps and communicate findings to the project team.
  • Assist Project Managers with schedule development and cost tracking.
  • Support progress reconciliation, monthly billings, and final invoicing.
  • Collaborate with field teams to ensure estimates align with construction execution.
  • Maintain strong working relationships with clients, consultants, subcontractors, and suppliers.
