About The Position

Pinnacle Precision is currently seeking an experienced Estimator with a strong background in CNC machined parts and Aerospace and Defense (A&D) quoting. This role provides cost estimates to the Customer Account Management Team and/or Business Development Team by gathering labor details, material costs, and capital requirements of manufacturing based on customer Request for Quote (RFQ) data and documents. The Estimator will follow established estimating processes to ensure accurate and timely delivery of quotations while supporting the company’s strategic focus on high-quality, precision manufacturing for the A&D industries.

Requirements

  • Minimum ten (10) years of experience in estimating, manufacturing, sheet metal fabrication, CNC machining, or a related aerospace/precision manufacturing environment.
  • Experience preparing quotations for aerospace and defense manufacturing programs.
  • Experience analyzing customer RFQs, engineering drawings, BOMs, and technical specifications.
  • Experience coordinating with suppliers and subcontractors for pricing and lead-time estimates.
  • Strong understanding of CNC machining processes including milling, turning, and multi-axis machining.
  • Strong understanding of sheet metal fabrication processes including laser cutting, punching, forming, welding, and finishing operations.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, specifications, and Bills of Material.
  • Working knowledge of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T).
  • Knowledge of aerospace and precision manufacturing processes including heat treating, grinding, plating, painting, non-destructive testing (NDT), rough machining, and finish machining.
  • Familiarity with AS9100D Quality Management Systems, document control, traceability, and continuous improvement principles.
  • Understanding of customer and regulatory requirements including AS9100, NADCAP, DFARS, and CMMC.
  • Proficiency with ERP systems, Microsoft Excel, estimating software, and cost-modeling tools.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to accurately develop labor standards, material estimates, tooling budgets, and production cost models.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Must be a (i) U.S. citizen or national, (ii) U.S. lawful, permanent resident (aka green card holder), (iii) Refugee under 8 U.S.C. § 1157, or (iv) Asylee under 8 U.S.C. § 1158, or be eligible to obtain the required authorizations from the U.S. Department of State.

  • Associate Degree in Engineering Technology, Manufacturing, Business, or a related field preferred.
  • Equivalent combination of education and relevant industry experience may be considered.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare formal quotations in accordance with customer requirements and established turnaround times
  • Develop detailed cost estimates and itemized budgets based on customer drawings, specifications, Statements of Work (SOW), and production requirements
  • Analyze customer Requests for Quote (RFQs) to determine manufacturing scope, production methods, and resource requirements
  • Reading and analyzing document specifications, CAD drawings, 2D drawings/blueprints, and Bills of Material (BOM) to determine required processes in the product life cycle.
  • Analyze customer requirements to determine make versus buy, the need for outside vendor processes, or the need for subcontractors.
  • Utilize ERP systems, spreadsheets, and estimating software to generate consistent and accurate cost models
  • Maintain estimating databases, labor standards, cost records, and pricing tools
  • Use ERP systems such as MieTrak or equivalent
  • Use spreadsheet tools such as MS Excel or equivalent to maintain and update cost databases
  • Use estimating software/platforms to develop consistent cost estimates and draft quote proposals such as Paperless Parts or equivalent
  • Analyze customer RFQs and technical documents to develop accurate cost estimates to include the following:
  • Actively collaborate with customers, suppliers, engineers, or other individuals (internal or external) to discuss/identify best fabrication practices with the intent of providing optimal cost estimates for production and customers
  • Determine material, labor, tooling, and processing requirements
  • Collaborate with Engineering, Production, and Purchasing teams to ensure feasibility and accuracy.
  • Sends RFQs to vendors/suppliers for cost and lead time estimates
  • Responsible for processing RFQs within Paperless Parts
  • Prepare and support customer requests by coordinating with Business Development and Customer Account Management teams to identify and communicate pricing assumptions, additional costs, and specification exceptions
  • Participate in Continuous Improvement initiatives to enhance estimating processes and achieve KPI targets
  • Perform other assigned duties as required.
