About The Position

Hughes General Contractors is looking for an Estimator to join our team. As an Estimator, you will be expected to create estimates for various projects while being responsible for cost accuracy. You will be expected to maintain a high level of professionalism and communicate effectively while working closely with others.

Requirements

  • Four-year college or technical school and/or training is preferred with a minimum of 5-10 years related construction experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (All Applications)
  • Experience with CMGC Delivery
  • Experience with Conceptual Estimating
  • Experience with Design Build
  • Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, and percentages.
  • Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra, geometry and surveying.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical documents, contracts, specifications or governmental regulations.
  • Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions within groups of managers, clients, investors, customers, and the general public.
  • Must be able to pass controlled substance tests prior to and at all times during employment.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in Smart Bid and Plan Swift
  • Experience in On-Screen Takeoff Software/Oasis
  • Ability to multi-task and manage several different activities at a time

Responsibilities

  • Produce detailed construction budgets
  • Understand unit costs of different construction materials and labor
  • Understand overall SF cost of construction for different building types
  • Read and understand Plans, Specifications and Contracts
  • Prepare job budgets and job books for construction
  • Awarding subcontractors as required
  • Review cost vs. budget & general construction productivity
  • Encourage repeat business & develop field contacts
  • Participate in client meetings
  • Participate in meetings with authorities and owners
  • Review and approve invoices
  • Maintain current drawings on site
  • Coordinate with Project Managers on all change orders
  • Update Accounting cost reports
  • Trouble shoot cost issues for the Division V.P., Project and Superintendent
  • Work with architects and engineers in design
  • Understand VE process and can lead a working session
