About The Position

The primary purpose of an estimator is to provide an accurate price and timeline for all received customer requests – given that said requests align with AMS’s core competency and services offered.

Requirements

  • Minimum 3–5 years of experience in manufacturing, estimating, or a related technical role.
  • Strong understanding of machining, fabrication, and/or manufacturing processes, including materials and production methods.
  • Experience working with ERP systems (Epicor preferred) for quoting, cost tracking, and order management.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, CAD files, and engineering specifications.
  • Familiarity with supply chain processes and vendor management.
  • Proven experience developing accurate cost estimates, including labor, materials, and outside services.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook); advanced Excel skills preferred.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple quotes and deadlines simultaneously.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills for customer and internal collaboration.
  • Ability to identify challenges and propose practical, cost-effective solutions.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision

Responsibilities

  • Review all customer drawings, specifications, and design documents to determine optimal manufacturing approach and accurate cost estimates.
  • Collaborate with scheduling, programming, and production teams to define required processes, operations, and timeline for each project.
  • Engage and coordinate with sub-tier suppliers and vendors to obtain pricing and ensure availability of required materials and services.
  • Prepare detailed, accurate, and timely quotes using Epicor ERP, ensuring all cost elements are properly captured.
  • Safeguard all customer intellectual property by adhering to company and customer data security protocols and requirements.
  • Submit completed bids to customers, clearly identifying any exceptions or deviations from standard capabilities.
  • Conduct timely follow-up with customers on submitted quotes to gather feedback, improve win rates, and support future opportunities.
  • Maintain organized records of all quotes, including supplier pricing, within company systems and file repositories alongside customer data.
  • Review purchase orders upon receipt to verify accuracy, completeness, and alignment with quoted terms; communicate confirmations or discrepancies promptly to customers.
  • Build and maintain strong customer relationships by providing responsive communication and support for current and future project needs.
  • Demonstrate ongoing professional development by continuously improving technical skills, industry knowledge, and customer service performance.
  • Perform other necessary duties and tasks as requested.
