About The Position

ModCorr offers rapid, efficient delivery and setup of minimum to maximum security correctional facilities and specialty units. All products are constructed offsite in a controlled environment and conform to the same building codes as traditional construction. ModCorr’s safe, secure and high-quality units comply with all American Correctional Association (ACA) and American with Disabilities Act (ADA) standards. The Estimator is responsible for developing accurate, competitive, and executable cost estimates for detention equipment and manufactured building components. This role bridges design, manufacturing, and field installation, ensuring estimates fully capture material, labor, fabrication, logistics, and installation requirements. The Estimator works closely with engineering, production, procurement, and operations teams to ensure estimates align with real-world manufacturing capabilities and project execution strategies.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or related field (or equivalent field experience in DEC / fabrication / construction)
  • 3–8+ years of estimating experience in one or more of the following: Detention equipment (DEC), Structural steel / fabrication, Precast or modular construction, Commercial construction with manufacturing integration.
  • Bluebeam (takeoffs and document review)
  • Microsoft Excel (advanced estimating and cost modeling)
  • Ability to read and interpret shop drawings, construction documents, and specifications.
  • Strong understanding of fabrication and installation processes.
  • Ability to translate design into real-world production and field costs.
  • Detail-oriented with strong analytical skills.
  • Effective communicator across engineering, production, and field teams.
  • Proactive in identifying risk and cost drivers.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare detailed cost estimates for detention equipment packages (doors, frames, hardware, security glazing, etc.), fabricated components and assemblies, and modular / precast-integrated systems.
  • Perform quantity takeoffs from drawings, specifications, and BIM models.
  • Analyze bid documents, specifications, and scope requirements.
  • Develop estimates that reflect actual shop production workflows, including labor hours (welding, fabrication, assembly), material costs (steel, hardware, specialty components), and equipment utilization and throughput constraints.
  • Coordinate with production teams to validate fabrication methods, cycle times, and shop capacity impacts.
  • Solicit and evaluate quotes from vendors and subcontractors.
  • Level bids and ensure scope coverage aligns with project requirements.
  • Work with procurement to identify cost-saving opportunities and long-lead risks.
  • Incorporate field labor, installation sequencing, and site constraints into estimates.
  • Coordinate with field operations to validate crew sizing and productivity rates, travel, per diem, and site conditions.
  • Account for shipping, handling, and logistics of manufactured components.
  • Clearly define inclusions, exclusions, and assumptions in all estimates.
  • Identify scope gaps, design conflicts, and constructability risks.
  • Support value engineering efforts and alternative design solutions.
  • Work closely with the design team (AOR, internal design/BIM), engineering, and operations and field leadership.
  • Support design-assist and design-build efforts with real-time pricing input.
