About The Position

Working for a reputed steel fabricator and erector in the Midwest, our MTH Industries world-class Estimators produce accurate, detail-oriented estimates on some of the most amazing structural projects in the world. As an Estimator at MTH Industries, you will work as part of a team of Estimators to produce accurate, detail-oriented estimates on small and large projects with varying complexity. This will be accomplished through collaborative efforts with various MTH disciplines such as fabrication, purchasing, field erection, pre-construction, sub-fabrication and 3rd party vendors. Our Estimators provide the business with estimates that can be accurately interpreted and executed by our Project Management teams.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent with structural drawing or drafting course work.
  • Vocation or other secondary educational program with course work in structural engineering, structural detailing or construction management.
  • Five years of progressively responsible experience estimating structural steel construction projects.
  • Proven experience as a construction or steel estimator.
  • Proven experience providing companies with accurate information that aids operations in achieving corporate goals.
  • Thorough understanding of Structural steel and Architectural design drawings and details.
  • Comprehensive Steel construction terminology and concepts knowledge.
  • Knowledge of estimating software packages.
  • Comfortable with numbers and analytical thought.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, emphasis on attention to detail.
  • Proficient knowledge of latest Windows operating system and Microsoft Office applications.
  • Proficiency in Revu/Bluebeam.

Responsibilities

  • Review and analyze blueprints, specifications, schedules and other documentation presented by the client, to accurately prepare and estimate projects.
  • Work directly with Sales and Pre-construction teams to understand size and scope of projects along with timelines and applicable project deadlines.
  • Collaborate with others on how we want to build the job through fabrication and erection.
  • Adhere to and follow the MTH Steel estimating guidelines and procedures.
  • Prepare detail oriented and accurate estimates on new projects as well as any change orders on existing contracts, meeting assigned deadlines.
  • Prepare the takeoff of steel materials, estimate all necessary shop labor and field labor, buyout items, equipment cost, and subcontractor work etc. to prepare a thorough estimate.
  • Enter all estimated information into our proprietary software for processing, summarize and review the results with appropriate leaders to ensure all aspects of the job are accounted for.
  • Discuss alternative recommendations on projects in which management requires supplementary estimates to meet client needs.
  • Interact with other team members, internal departments and subcontractors professionally.
