About The Position

Join Orion Marine Construction as an Estimator supporting critical bid and proposal efforts across complex marine infrastructure projects. This is a hands-on, strategic role ideal for professionals with 5+ years of marine or heavy civil estimating experience who want to make a direct impact on project success from preconstruction onward. This position is accountable for the preparation of estimates, takeoffs, and gathering information required for project proposals. Activities of the incumbent include working closely with the project team(s) to ensure success in the bid proposal and award process. Requirements

  • A minimum of five (5) years estimating experience in marine construction or a related industry is required.
  • Familiarization with Project Estimating, Marine Construction Materials, Procurement, Construction Estimating, Scheduling, Project Tracking Software, Cost Control, Project Standards, and Safety & Environmental Compliance.
  • Strong computer skills.
  • Ability to interface well with employees at all levels of the organization.

Nice To Haves

  • B.S. in Civil Engineering/Construction Management or related discipline is preferred.
  • Ability to travel to potential project areas.
  • Maintain a current passport.

Responsibilities

  • Works as a key member of the Project Management Team helping to ensure success in the bid estimation process for marine construction projects.
  • Conducts investigation of potential project site accompanied by job sponsor.
  • Prepares listing of bid items for review by the Project Management Team.
  • Performs quantity surveys to develop a basis for cost estimates/pricing.
  • Contacts all material suppliers and subcontractors involved in a given project and solicits quotations on needed bid items.
  • Collects all quotations and enters data into the project management information system regarding quote and survey information.
  • Organizes estimates, quotations, notes, plans, and other pertinent data for final pre-bid review and leads discussion of individual bid items.
  • Assists in the review and analysis of bid documents for items relating to project risk, cost, or company capability.
  • Prepares all bid documents and arranges in work sheet form.
  • Assists in the establishment of proper sequencing of construction labor requirements and productivity.
  • Supervises preparation of man-hours and unit production for the various items in the project.
  • Maintains and updates vendor files for various construction materials and subcontractors.
  • Coordinates with subcontractors and vendors to make sure quotes are received by date, preferably before final review date, and are in compliance with bid form and per plan specifications.
  • Participates in Safety and Environmental initiatives that will contribute to compliance with State/Federal regulations and improve existing Company programs.
  • Responsible and accountable for incumbent's own personal safety.

  • Authorized and obligated to stop work on any task or series of tasks whenever an unsafe condition or situation is anticipated or observed.
