About The Position

Requirements

  • 5+ years of prior HVAC/Construction Estimating experience and/or a combination of experience and advanced technical training or education in HVAC or a related discipline.
  • Extensive knowledge of GRD, dampers, fans, terminal units, and specialty product selection.
  • Experience performing take-offs using On Screen Takeoff or other related take-off programs, operating the program with advanced proficiency.
  • Understands exclusions and terminology, identifying products that can and cannot be bid within bid documents.
  • Understands prior approval processes, reviewing equipment and specifications to identify where approvals are required.
  • Mechanical aptitude – ability to understand and apply mechanical concepts and principles at an advanced level.
  • Understands the bid to submittal process in detail.
  • Capable of sizing GRDs based on factory performance data sheets.
  • Able to review and understand relevant information in specifications.
  • Organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to handle multiple priorities.
  • Desire to continuously improve current processes/methods/practices.
  • Proficiency in BlueBeam.

Responsibilities

  • Performs intermediate and complex HVAC take-offs from mechanical construction drawings, which involve higher dollar amounts, complex product mixes, and require a high degree of knowledge and experience. This includes Plan/Spec Take/Off Bids and Design/Build Permit & CD Bids.
  • Exercises independent judgment and makes final decisions for the majority of bids assigned, identifying products that require technical or pricing assistance from internal teams or vendors.
  • Achieves estimating speed and accuracy by quickly, accurately, and efficiently counting items.
  • Follows and develops estimating strategies, collaborating with other departments to produce strategic and accurate quotations.
  • Prices equipment using manufacturer pricing software/data and updates bid contacts in Salesforce.
  • Researches new projects to understand if they are re-bids or existing opportunities.
  • Manages and prioritizes multiple bids, effectively managing scope based on project details and customer requirements.
  • Drafts pricing quotes to provide to customers.
  • Digitally files and maintains project documents.
  • Provides mentorship and training to the Estimating Coordinator and Estimator 1 team members, offering timely updates and assisting with basic take-offs as workload demands.
  • Bids an average of 5-15 jobs per week, ranging from $500,000 to $1,000,000.
  • Answers questions and provides guidance on developing projects, plans, specifications, and quotes.
  • Communicates professionally and provides outstanding customer service to all Dorse stakeholders.
  • Understands customer needs within the industry, including their preferences, expectations, and Dorse's role in the construction and HVAC infrastructure.
