About The Position

Responsible for determining property valuations based primarily on property surveys, diagrams and photos provided by agents. Assist underwriters in understanding construction features of a property to assist in the acquisition and retention of profitable business through proper insurance to value.

Requirements

  • Must be able to access, input and retrieve information from a computer.
  • Must be able to read construction blueprints or APEX diagrams in order to gather information to complete a building cost valuation.
  • Must have command of the English language-both oral and written.
  • Need to have decision-making skills and be able to make independent decisions.
  • Effectively interface with external contacts, Brotherhood employees, managers, and department staff members.
  • Must have a high school diploma or equivalent.
  • Must meet the company established competency standard for business writing skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Associate degree in business, insurance or engineering is desired.
  • Completing an appraisal course and/or hold a property appraisers license is desired.
  • Some insurance related course work is desired.
  • Prior experience in property insurance, building construction, and/or real estate valuation is desired.

Responsibilities

  • Calculate the square foot area, quality/type of construction, location, and other value contributing features of a building to arrive at proper building replacement cost and actual cash value.
  • Input data into estimating system(s) to obtain final building valuation.
  • Communicate analyzed data to the appropriate underwriter, rater or agent.
  • Input commercial and residential valuation detail into the Property Survey Master file and keep the file current with any changes or revisions that are given to underwriting about a property once a policy has been written.
  • Accurately update and maintain values on existing insured properties.
  • Maintain production at a level so that subsequent processors in the workflow line can meet production deadlines.
  • Accurately complete the designated number of estimates set by management.
  • Participate in agent schools regarding the property value function.
  • Serve on committees or teams when requested.
  • Project a positive and professional personal and corporate image in order to gain the confidence of agents, underwriters and prospective and existing insureds.
  • Make field inspections of properties when requested by agent or underwriter.
  • Complete other projects as assigned.
