Working under guidance, you'll help develop accurate conceptual and detailed estimates while learning industry best practices in a collaborative, people-first environment. This role is ideal for detail-oriented professionals eager to build a career in preconstruction and contribute to winning, profitable projects that deliver sustainable mechanical solutions nationwide.

Requirements

  • Experience: 1–3+ years of relevant experience in construction estimating, preconstruction, project coordination, or a related field (internships, apprenticeships, or entry-level roles in mechanical/construction count). Recent graduates with engineering or construction management degrees who have strong interest in commercial HVAC/mechanical estimating are encouraged to apply.
  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Mechanical Engineering, Architectural Engineering, or a related field preferred; equivalent experience considered.

  • Work Environment/Safety: Professional office with hybrid options and occasional active construction sites; exposure to varying weather, noise, dust, heights; must adhere to OSHA regulations, conduct hazard identification, and wear required PPE (hard hat, safety glasses, steel-toed boots) on sites—safety is our top priority and non-negotiable. This is a safety-sensitive position.
  • Basic understanding of commercial construction practices, mechanical systems (HVAC/electrical/plumbing/piping preferred), and reading blueprints/specifications.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel essential for data organization and calculations; Word and Outlook for communication).

  • Collaborative team player with the ability to work toward increasing independence.
  • Commitment to accuracy, quality, and continuous improvement in a fast-paced preconstruction environment.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in the preparation of conceptual, rough-order-of-magnitude (ROM), and detailed cost estimates for HVAC, plumbing, piping, ductwork, electrical, and mechanical systems from narratives, schematics, design development, or full construction documents.
  • Review contract documents (plans, specifications, addenda, scopes of work) and perform quantity takeoffs for materials, labor, and equipment.
  • Gather and organize supplier/subcontractor pricing and data under supervision to support accurate budgeting and proposals.
  • RFP/RFQ responses.
  • Maintain accurate, organized project files, estimate records, and documentation.
  • Help identify design challenges, code gaps, constructability issues, and value engineering opportunities.
  • Participate in client and stakeholder meetings as needed to gather scope and provide basic estimating support.
  • Collaborate with internal teams (estimating, operations, sales) and external partners to align deliverables with project objectives.
  • Assist with special projects, research, or administrative tasks related to estimating as assigned.
  • Actively learn commercial construction methods, mechanical systems, estimating techniques, and Modigent standards through on-the-job training and mentorship.
