About The Position

Our client is seeking an experienced Estimator to join its concrete construction team in Charlottesville, Virginia. This is an in-person position for a construction professional with strong commercial concrete estimating and preconstruction experience. The Estimator will be responsible for developing accurate and competitive estimates for commercial concrete projects, supporting bids and negotiations, and collaborating with project teams, subcontractors, vendors, and clients throughout the preconstruction process.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or a related field preferred; equivalent construction estimating experience will be considered.
  • 5+ years of commercial concrete estimating and preconstruction experience, including projects valued at $10M+.
  • Strong knowledge of construction estimating, cost modeling, cost engineering, and constructability.
  • Comprehensive understanding of commercial building construction means, methods, systems, trades, and work disciplines.
  • Ability to read, interpret, and understand construction drawings, specifications, contracts, and project documents.
  • Field construction experience in addition to estimating experience is preferred.
  • Strong organizational skills with exceptional attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
  • Excellent communication, collaboration, active listening, and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office 365, particularly Excel, Word, Outlook, and Project.
  • Experience with Procore and On-Screen Takeoff (OnCenter) or similar estimating software.

Nice To Haves

  • Field construction experience in addition to estimating experience is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare accurate quantity take-offs, job analyses, pricing, and complete estimates for competitive bids and negotiations.
  • Develop bid documents and solicit vendor and subcontractor pricing for various scopes of work.
  • Maintain the estimate log and track bid activity, competitor information, market conditions, and bid strategies.
  • Develop and maintain historical cost data to evaluate labor productivity, pricing trends, and profitability.
  • Analyze project schedules, materials, equipment, subcontractor capabilities, market conditions, and potential risks.
  • Read and interpret construction plans, specifications, contracts, and other project documents.
  • Collaborate with internal and external project teams to develop strong, productive relationships.
  • Identify challenges and develop practical, cost-effective solutions throughout the estimating process.
  • Leverage technology and estimating systems to improve accuracy, efficiency, and the client experience.
  • Incorporate appropriate safety measures and costs into estimates while promoting a strong safety culture.
