About The Position

Potelco, Inc., a subsidiary of Quanta Services, Inc., founded in 1965, specializes in EPC services including designing, estimating, material acquisition, project management, construction, emergency power restoration, system maintenance, and similar services for power, transmission, distribution, and substation projects. They are a leading full-service provider of power infrastructure, construction, and support services in the utility and energy contracting sector throughout the Pacific Northwest and neighboring states. Potelco is seeking an Estimating Intern for Summer 2027. This 8-10 week internship is designed for students in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or Mechanical Engineering to gain hands-on experience in the preconstruction phase of infrastructure projects. Interns will learn project evaluation and pricing under the guidance of experienced Estimators and Project Managers, with exposure to large-scale transmission, distribution, substation, and utility infrastructure projects.

Requirements

  • Actively enrolled student with Junior + standing at time of internship pursuing a degree in: Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or Mechanical Engineering
  • Minimum 3.2 cumulative GPA
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Basic understanding of construction drawings or engineering plans
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills
  • Interest in construction, infrastructure, or energy systems
  • Willingness to travel to job sites when needed

Responsibilities

  • Assist with reviewing engineering drawings, construction plans, and specifications
  • Support the preparation of quantity takeoffs and material estimates
  • Research labor, equipment, and material costs used in project estimates
  • Assist with compiling information for project bids and proposals
  • Organize and maintain estimate documentation and project files
  • Participate in internal estimate reviews and pre-bid meetings
  • Collaborate with estimating, engineering, and operations teams to gather project information
  • Attend job walks or site visits when applicable
  • Assist with spreadsheets, estimating tools, and project cost analysis
  • Maintain a strong focus on accuracy, organization, and safety
  • Other duties as assigned
