About The Position

Rubb Building Systems is an American building manufacturer located in Sanford, Maine, specializing in the production and installation of high-quality steel-framed fabric buildings. We are committed to delivering durable, engineered fabric structures while maintaining a high standard of quality throughout design, production, and installation. As we continue to produce some of the finest frame-supported membrane structures in the world, we are seeking an Estimating Engineer to join our team. This individual will be a key member of our Sales team, and should bring a strong work ethic, with the ability to work independently while remaining efficient and accurate in their work. The Estimating Engineer owns cost intelligence for Rubb's building projects. The primary function of this role is to close the estimate-to-actuals feedback loop, build reliable cost benchmarks, and translate that data into pricing that reflects what projects cost to deliver. This person works across sales, engineering, production, procurement, and finance to ensure every estimate is grounded in current, accurate cost assumptions, and communicates cost performance and KPI targets to operational leaders to drive accountability at the project level.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering (e.g. industrial, process), finance, or a related field preferred; equivalent relevant experience may be considered.
  • Experience in estimating, manufacturing, construction, fabrication, or a related technical environment.
  • Knowledge of project estimating principles, pricing strategies, and cost intelligence for labor, materials, equipment, suppliers, freight, and overhead; experience with value engineering and continuous improvement preferred.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, specifications, and bid documents.
  • Strong analytical and critical thinking skills with high attention to detail.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and experience using estimating tools, ERP systems, or cost databases.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively across Sales, Engineering, Operations, Procurement, and Finance.

Responsibilities

  • Analyze historical performance and current cost drivers and trends to develop benchmarks that accurately support project design, engineering, fabrication, and installation estimates.
  • Build, maintain, and refine estimating tools and processes to improve consistency, speed, and accuracy across all project types.
  • Partner with Planning, Engineering, Procurement, and Production to obtain current model inputs including vendor and subcontractor pricing, materials, accessories, and transportation costs.
  • Work with Sales to review project drawings, specifications, bid documents, and customer requirements to develop complete and accurate quotes and project cost budgets.
  • Support compliance-related quoting requirements, including applicable domestic sourcing standards such as Build America and Buy America.
  • Coordinate with Finance and Executive Leadership to ensure estimates reflect current overhead requirements, margin expectations, and other relevant cost considerations including license fees, taxes, insurance, and bonds.
  • Maintain organized estimating files and documentation for each opportunity, including assumptions, clarifications, revisions, approvals, and supporting quote documentation.
  • Engage Planning and Engineering on continuous improvement initiatives including value engineering, by refining estimating templates, workflows, reporting, and decision-support tools to enhance consistency, speed, and accuracy.
