About The Position

Rosie’s Place was founded in 1974 as the first women’s shelter in the United States. Our mission is to provide a safe and nurturing environment to help poor and homeless women maintain their dignity, seek opportunity and find security in their lives. Over the years, we have become much more than a shelter. We are a multi-service community center that not only provides meals and shelter but also creates answers for thousands of women a year through wide-ranging support, housing and education services. Rosie’s Place relies on the generous support of individuals, foundations and corporations and does not accept any city, state or federal funding.

  • Physically able to safely lift 50lbs, reach, bend and stoop.
  • Must be able to commit to Rosie’s Place for at least 6 months.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working in human services, customer service or food service preferred.
  • Ability to speak Haitian Creole and/or Spanish and/or Cantonese and/or Mandarin in addition to English strongly preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Sort, pack and distribute food in the Food Pantry.
  • Use a computer database to check in guests and verify identities.
  • Stock shelves in the Food Pantry.
  • Clean and sanitize Food Pantry spaces.
  • Prepare and serve meals in the Dining Room.
  • Stock food and supplies in the Dining Room.
  • Clean and sanitize the kitchen and guest table and chairs.
  • Log guest names when they come in at the Front Lobby.
  • Answer the phone and the front door.
  • Sort and distribute mail.
  • Assist guests with daily essential needs.
  • Oversee the use of guest telephone, computer, laundry and showers.
  • Respond to all matters, questions and concerns in a dignified and respectful manner.
  • Intervene in guests’ crises and emergencies in a dignified and respectful manner.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by the Senior Director of Emergency Services or the Manager of the essential service program where you are working.
