About The Position

The ESS Manager at Flowers Foods, Inc. is responsible for managing and leading the development, implementation, and maintenance of environmental, safety, and sustainability (ESS) systems and programs. This role provides leadership and direction in the development, administration, and maintenance of EHS&S compliance and continuous improvement within the bakery. Requirements

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Safety, Industrial Hygiene, Environmental Sciences, or a related field with strong knowledge of safety and environmental regulations.
  • CSP, OHST, STS, or other recognized credentials.

Nice To Haves

  • 1-3 years’ experience in successfully coordinating safety and/or environmental activities in a manufacturing setting.

Responsibilities

  • Manages and leads the development, implementation, and maintenance of environmental, safety, and sustainability (ESS) systems and programs.
  • Provides leadership and direction in the development, administration, and maintenance of EHS&S compliance and continuous improvement.
  • Leverages the EHS Data Management system applications and serves as the Subject Matter Expert (SME) for the bakery.
  • Manages the effective application of the various EHS modules at the bakery level.
  • Performs regular safety, environmental and sustainability inspections and ensures compliance with corporate and government standards.
  • Facilitates training completion for applicable regulatory and corporate safety standards.
  • Develops and delivers safety topics and materials to supervisors for shift meetings.
  • Serves as lead bakery contact for regulatory inspections (OSHA, EPA) and citation abatement.
  • Maintains all required records and submits all required reports to regulatory agencies on a timely basis.
  • Collaborates with multi-functional teams to drive Safety, Sustainability and Environmental processes and projects.
  • Verifies that the facility and all contractors/vendors comply with all Federal, State, and Local Safety and Environmental Regulations.
  • Leads the management team in executing the investigation of all incidents, reports findings, determines root causes, and tracks corrective actions.
  • Manages and supports the development of site JHAs and ensures training is completed.
  • Audits permits for activities such as lockout tagout (LOTO), hot work, confined space entry, powered industrial truck operation.
  • Maintains site First Aid log and works with the HRBP to ensure OSHA log accuracy.
  • Maintains corporate licenses and obtains required EHS permits for the process and/or equipment or discharges.
  • Reports Notices of Violation (NOVs), permit requests, permit exceedances, and incidents to the Corporate Environmental Team.
  • Works with the Corporate Environmental Team to develop written responses and corrective actions for permit violations.
  • Implements air, wastewater, stormwater and spill plans for the bakery.
  • Regularly monitors Water, Electric, and Gas Usage for energy savings and discrepancies.
  • Coordinates and helps implement Recycling Programs.
  • Drives and promotes sustainability practices and initiatives.
  • Ensures compliance with all company policies and procedures.
  • Collaborates with multi-disciplinary teams to troubleshoot and implement corrective actions and solutions.
  • Performs other duties as deemed by management to be an integral part of the job.
