About The Position

Hoquiam School District #28 is seeking an Esports Head Coach to help participating students achieve a high level of skills and foster an appreciation for discipline, sportsmanship, and self-esteem. The coach will be responsible for planning and conducting practices, ensuring student welfare and safety, maintaining records, and promoting a positive public relations program. This is a stipend position with proposed start date of November 1, 2026.

Requirements

Meet with the Athletic Director to obtain the District’s expectations of the coach and program.
Plan and conduct regular scheduled practice sessions during the sport season, emphasizing fundamental skills, team play, strategy and Esports rules, using, updating and maintaining daily practice plans and daily roll.
Provide for the general health and welfare of students in the esports, giving appropriate attention to students who are injured or ill and maintaining injury and other health reports.
Emphasize safety in teaching techniques and elements of play; discourages tactics that may increase hazards of injury.
Maintain records of team and individual statistics and recommends criteria and players for awards to the coach and Athletic Director.
Monitor the safety conditions of the facility and/or area in which the assigned Esports are conducted.
Ensure participants have appropriate and properly fitted protective equipment.
Ensure that equipment and facilities are inspected on a regular basis and property maintained and brings uncorrected deficiencies to the attention of the Athletic Director.
Responsible for inventory, storage, distribution and retrieval of equipment.
Maintenance and promotion of a positive public relations program.
Coordinates transportation to practice, matches, and state.
Supervises students to, from, and during all regular season contests and play-offs.
Carries out practice, game, and scouting responsibilities.
Ensures all participating students meet and/or have completed eligibility requirements, including scholastic standards, physical exams, insurance/waivers, payment of files, A.S.B. cards, athletic code, assumption of risk forms and other required items as designated by the Athletic Director.
Ensures that the rules and regulations outlined in the Athletic Code, Washington State Scholastic Esports Association (WSSEA) Code of Conduct, and other league handbooks are understood by students and parents and followed by participants.
Attends meetings as required by the Athletic Director and Principal.
Communicates regularly with league officials and other coaches to arrange correct game times and settings.
Reports scores to the appropriate governing body.
Performs additional duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Athletic Director and Principal to ensure the success of the program and safety of the participants.
Works cooperatively with curricular and co-curricular staff members to ensure harmony and cooperation within the total school.
Willingness to promote the total esports program with the student body, administration, teaching and coaching staff, and public.
Keeps abreast of current knowledge and coaching techniques in the designated Esport by reading current literature and establishing, with the head coach, a program for personal growth and development such as attending clinics, classes, and workshops.
Accepts the responsibility of role model and conducts self in a manner that reflects positively at practices and contests.
Demonstrated ability to supervise students in a co-curricular setting.
Demonstrated ability to relate to students, staff, administration and public.
Evidence of the training and experience needed in the designated sport to perform the responsibilities and duties describe herein.
Type II Driver’s License
Driver’s Abstract
Holds current first-aid card or its equivalent with CPR endorsement.

Nice To Haves

Knowledge of the games to participate in for competition.
Coaching experience.
Course work in coaching methods for the designated Esport desirable.
