Requirements

  • TESOL degree, and/or TESOL certification from a state licensing agency
  • Minimum of two years of experience in TESOL instruction in a classroom setting with a structured curriculum
  • Valid N.Y.S. Driver's License
  • NYS driver's license check
  • State Central Register Clearance

Responsibilities

  • Creating lesson plans and directly teaching adults who speak English as a second language, utilizing a comprehensive curriculum.
  • Assessing students using standardized tools to determine their English language proficiency level and make appropriate adjustments by moving them between levels.
  • Networking within Catholic Charities and with external service providers to offer referrals that meet the needs of program participants and promote program objectives.
  • Timely record-keeping to meet funding source guidelines.
  • Supervising and providing guidelines to staff and volunteers.
  • Recruiting and evaluating program participants, monitoring their progress, and making recommendations for appropriate classes.
  • Maintaining accountability for all participants, staff, and volunteers.
  • Serving as a professional role model.
  • Collaborating effectively with other project staff.
  • Consistently maintaining compliance with funding source guidelines and Catholic Charities policies and procedures.
