About The Position

This position is for a Grades 7-12 ESL Paraeducator at Pleasant Valley Junior High and Pleasant Valley High School. The role involves supporting English Language Learners (ELL) by collaborating with ESL teachers and classroom teachers, reinforcing classroom objectives, and providing guidance and support to students. The paraeducator will work with students during instructional time, lunch, and recess, and must maintain professionalism and confidentiality. Assignments are based on full-day needs and may vary by building based on student requirements.

Requirements

High school diploma
Post-secondary education (preferred)
Experience in areas related to the listed performance responsibilities.

Responsibilities

Frequent collaboration with the ESL teacher and classroom teachers to discuss student progress and needs.
Spend time in ESL small group instruction.
Engage in conversations with the ESL teacher regarding strategies and student needs.
Work with the student and classroom teacher to ensure that student accommodations are followed.
Provide proper examples, emotional support, friendly attitude, and general guidance to ELL students.
Adapt classroom activities, assignments and/or materials under the direction of the supervising teacher for the purpose of supporting and reinforcing classroom objectives.
May use assistive technology as well as native language to communicate with students.
Supervise English Learners at lunch/recess as assigned by ESL Teacher.
Maintain professionalism, confidentiality and non-judgmental views of children and families served.
Participate in ESL para team meetings and district paraprofessional training.
