About The Position

MOSAIC is seeking a motivated ESL Instructor to join their HEU team. This role involves the delivery and facilitation of an online-learning ESL class specifically tailored for HEU members. The class is fully online, incorporating asynchronous learning via Moodle LMS, synchronous workshops through Zoom, and office hours for one-on-one client meetings. The instructor will be responsible for meeting the specific needs of HEU members through needs assessments and goal setting, providing appropriate feedback to students to enhance language learning and goal achievement, and fostering a warm, inclusive, and safe online learning environment. Additionally, the role requires assessing and providing feedback to students using Canadian Language Benchmark (CLB) indicators and Portfolio Based Language Assessment (PBLA) best practices, as well as providing feedback on curriculum and collaborating with the team to adjust it for optimal client learning experiences.

Requirements

  • Excellent pedagogical knowledge and experience in online instruction using Moodle and Zoom.
  • Recognized undergraduate degree and a TESL Canada recognized TESL certificate or a clearly documented equivalent.
  • At least 2 years of experience teaching adult ESL, particularly using student-centered, participatory methods.
  • Working knowledge of the CLBs (Canadian Language Benchmarks) and PBLA (Portfolio Based Language Assessment).
  • Must be legally permitted to work in Canada through citizenship or permanent resident status, or have a work permit that allows work for the duration of the position.

Nice To Haves

  • Community-based, settlement and Literacy ESL experience is an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Delivery and facilitation of an online-learning ESL class to HEU members.
  • Conducting needs assessments and goal setting to meet the specific needs of HEU members.
  • Providing appropriate feedback to students to further language learning and aid in meeting goals.
  • Creating a warm, inclusive, and safe online learning environment.
  • Assessing and providing feedback to students using Canadian Language Benchmark (CLB) indicators and best practices of Portfolio Based Language Assessment (PBLA).
  • Providing feedback on curriculum and working with the team to adjust curriculum to meet client needs and provide an optimum learning experience.
