About The Position

This is an instructor pool for ESL Associate Instructor positions for the 2026-2027 academic year. The role involves teaching English as a Second Language to community college students from diverse backgrounds.

Requirements

• Master’s degree in TESL, TESOL, applied linguistics with a TESL emphasis, linguistics with a TESL emphasis, English with a TESL emphasis, or education with a TESL emphasis.
• OR master’s degree in Linguistics with a Specialization in TESOL/Applied Linguistics (SDSU); Master’s of Education in TESOL, Literacy and Culture (USD); master’s degree in applied linguistics with a TESOL emphasis, linguistics with a TESOL emphasis, English with a TESOL emphasis, or education with a TESOL emphasis [approved comparable degree titles at MiraCosta College].
• OR bachelor’s degree in TESL, TESOL, English with a TESL certificate, linguistics with a TESL certificate, applied linguistics with a TESL certificate, or any foreign language with a TESL certificate, or literature and writing studies (an approved comparable degree title at MiraCosta College) AND master’s degree in linguistics, applied linguistics, English, composition, bilingual/bicultural studies, reading, speech or any foreign language, or literature and writing studies (an approved comparable degree title at MiraCosta College).
• OR a valid appropriate California Community College Credential in the discipline area.
• OR the equivalent.
• Sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability and ethnic backgrounds of community college students.
