About The Position

This job is responsible for providing risk oversight and advice to the Line of Business (LOB) on risk management issues. Key responsibilities include identifying risks to which the LOB is exposed, implementing measures to prevent and mitigate losses, and monitoring risk outcomes. Job expectations may include the ability to recognize all risk categories including credit, market, operational and compliance, as well as directing risk staff or participating in establish risk management procedures and standards. The ESG Risk Advisory manager will play a critical role in executing the bank’s approach to Environmental, Social and Governance Risks. This hire will be a member of the Global Environmental Group (GEG), reporting to the Global Environmental Executive and accountable to the Environmental and Social Business Advisory leader. Responsibilities include advising on ESG risks associated with clients, transactions, products, and strategic initiatives by partnering with lines of business, Risk, Public Policy, GCOCSR, and other stakeholders. Provides subject matter expertise, supports due diligence and risk mitigation efforts, and monitors emerging ESG developments to inform risk management and business decision-making. This individual will also utilize AI and advanced analytics tools to improve the efficiency, quality, and consistency of ESG risk assessments, due diligence, monitoring, and reporting.

Requirements

  • 6+ years of experience in ESG Risk or equivalent work experience.
  • Strong executive presence and demonstrated effectiveness working with senior leaders.
  • Comfortable in a complex, fast paced and result-oriented corporate environment.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, ability to interface with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders comfortably and regularly.
  • Exceptional organizational and time management skills, ability to successfully multi-task and make accurate decisions under short time deadlines and with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to advise lines of business on ESG risk management, evaluating clients and transactions for compliance with ESG policies and standards.
  • Ability to work within a large, multi-business financial institution, understand bank products and decision-making processes.
  • Critical thinking skills, capacity to process complex issues, and ability to analyze, interpret and summarize vast amounts of information quickly.
  • Strong writing and research skills, combined with ability to filter, summarize and communicate complex relevant issues to executives and other internal and external audiences.
  • Demonstrated ability to leverage AI and emerging technologies to improve risk analysis, synthesize information, generate insights, and support informed business and risk decisions.
  • Ability to anticipate potential reputational risks for the company before they arise.

Responsibilities

  • Participates in establishing risk management procedures and standards
  • Conducts execution of risk framework activities including independent monitoring and testing of controls and risk management processes for the Line of Business (LOB)
  • Liaisons with businesses to understand market trends and impacts on portfolio, using knowledge of stress testing and its applicability to risk categories
  • Ensures adherence to the policies and procedures established by the company
  • Manages risk requests, breach remediations and providing risk effective challenges for front line units
  • Develops risk management analyses, reports, and approval procedures and guidelines on risk limits by type of product and/or transaction
  • Supports lines of business in conducting due diligence by providing subject matter expertise, risk assessment, and advisory guidance on ESG risks associated with clients, transactions, and business activities, taking into consideration the best industry practices as well as regulatory requirements and stakeholder expectations.
  • Identifies and analyze emerging ESG risks, supporting executive-ready insights to inform the bank's perspective and decision-making.
  • Collaborates with lines of business and enterprise partners to build awareness of ESG risks and support coordinated approaches to identifying, assessing, and managing key ESG issues.
  • Engages with external stakeholders, including peer institutions, NGOs, investors, and industry groups, to monitor emerging ESG risks, gather market insights, and inform risk management practices and strategic decision-making.
