About The Position

Quanex is looking for a Ergonomics and Safety Intern to join our team located in St. Cloud, MN. This internship opportunity is for Summer 2026. The Ergonomics & Safety Intern will support the EHS team by evaluating ergonomic risks in manufacturing operations and helping reduce musculoskeletal injury risk. This role offers hands-on experience applying ergonomic principles to real production environments, with a focus on safe movement, body mechanics, and injury prevention. The intern will work closely with EHS and Operations to assess tasks, identify risks, and help develop training and standard work to promote safe and sustainable work practices. Requirements

  • Currently pursuing a degree in Exercise Science, Environmental Science, Manufacturing Engineering Technology, Industrial Studies, or a related technical field, with a foundational understanding of ergonomics, body mechanics, and human movement
  • Ability to observe work activities and identify ergonomic risk factors, with interest or familiarity in applying ergonomic assessment tools
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, including comfort interacting with employees on the production floor and providing coaching or feedback on safe movement practices
  • Self‑motivated and detail‑oriented, with strong analytical skills, proficiency in basic computer applications (Excel, Word, PowerPoint), ability to clearly document findings, and willingness to spend significant time in a manufacturing environment

Responsibilities

  • Conduct ergonomic assessments of production tasks using tools such as TuMeke software, Snook & Ciriello tables, observational analysis, and on-the-floor evaluations of body mechanics, posture, and movement
  • Identify ergonomic risk factors including lifting, pushing, pulling, repetitive motion, awkward postures, and applied force, and document findings clearly and professionally
  • Partner with EHS and Operations teams to recommend and track practical improvements to work methods, task design, body positioning, and corrective actions
  • Support the development and enhancement of ergonomics, body mechanics, and safe movement training materials, and help integrate guidance into SOPs and JSAs
  • Participate in safety walks, employee interactions, and on-the-floor coaching related to ergonomic best practices and injury prevention
