About The Position

White Rock Medical Center is seeking a compassionate and care-minded ER Unit Health Coordinator to join their team. This role is responsible for coordinating clerical activities and supporting patient services within the emergency department. The coordinator will use clinical information systems to ensure accurate preparation and processing of patient documents, verify status information, and confirm communications for doctors, nurses, patients, and family members to ensure effective operations of the unit. White Rock Medical Center is a community-based hospital serving Dallas, Garland, Mesquite, and surrounding areas, specializing in a wide range of services including comprehensive medical/surgical care, bariatric, cardiology, outpatient, and emergency medicine. Requirements

  • One (1) year of healthcare experience OR one (1) year of related clerical experience.
  • High school diploma or equivalent is required.
  • BLS within 30 days of hire required.

Responsibilities

  • Assist and maintain administrative functions of the emergency department to facilitate the flow of patients from door to discharge, admit, or transfer.
  • Prepare and process hardcopy and computerized patient files by entering, sorting, and updating information to ensure accurate and complete records.
  • Utilize AIDET in interactions with patients and family members.
  • Review EMRs for any orders that require initiation and notify the nurse in a timely manner.
  • Initiate, assemble, and maintain hard copy patient charts, preparing them for HIM following patient discharge.
  • Communicate effectively and efficiently for the delivery of safe and effective patient care.
  • Follow National Patient Safety Goals.
  • Maintain use of appropriate equipment and supplies.
  • Perform unit stock and maintenance duties as established by the department.
  • Act quickly, appropriately, and with a sense of urgency in the delivery of patient care.
  • Use clear, concise, professional communication with coworkers and all customers (internal and external).
  • May float to other departments as needed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Treat everyone as their customer; utilize scripting and other tools to ensure consistency in customer service.
  • Express recognition and show appreciation to others; fully utilize AIDET principles.
  • Respond quickly to handle requests, complaints, and questions.
  • Display a positive attitude.
  • Wear nametag properly; follow dress code policy.
  • Answer phone correctly and promptly; be prepared for meetings; meet deadlines.
  • Do not participate in gossip; act ethically and treat others with respect.
  • Respect customer’s and co-worker’s time; establish and maintain effective relationships with customers and co-workers.
  • Attend staff meetings.
  • Follow HIPAA guidelines.
  • Follow patient rights policy.
  • Comply with the compliance program.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of role in a disaster.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of fire and fire drill procedures.
  • Possess working knowledge of hospital emergency codes.
  • Always utilize standard precautions in the clinical setting.
  • Safely manage the environment of care by demonstrating a working knowledge of the requirements of the Life Safety program, Utilities Management program, Hazardous Materials program, Emergency Preparedness program, Safety Management program, Medical Equipment Management program, and Security Management program.
