Position Summary: Unit Clerk is responsible for all receptionist and clerical duties on the assigned unit and for meeting the needs of patients and family as requested. Currently this position is scheduled 5:00 p.m. - 5:00 a.m. ( 36 hrs/week)

Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Must exhibit patience with a helpful demeanor to the customer and be able to handle all types of situations that could arise in a calm manner.
  • Must be able to work efficiently both independently and collaboratively with teams and leadership while demonstrating a high level of integrity, sound judgment, and attention to detail.
  • This role requires professionalism in all interactions with employees, patients, and the public, along with the ability to maintain strict confidentiality and comply with all SECHD, state, and federal policies and regulations.
  • Strong problem-solving, organizational, and time-management skills are essential, as is the ability to manage multiple priorities, adapt to change, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • The candidate must communicate clearly and effectively, both verbally and in writing, and demonstrate strong interpersonal skills with a professional and compassionate demeanor.
  • Computer proficiency and the ability to learn new software systems are required.
  • Dependability, initiative, and the ability to see tasks through to completion are critical, as is a commitment to safety, quality, and working under stressful conditions and/or irregular hours.

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of medical terminology through experience or education preferred.
  • Knowledge of applicable state and federal regulations is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Handle all telephone calls in a customer friendly manner.
  • Interacts with all visitors, coworkers, and other departments in a customer friendly manner.
  • Inventory and stock supplies including supply items needed in patient care areas verifying the amount of supplies available and preparing requisitions for replacement supplies.
  • Register all in-patient, out-patient, and ER patients in the computer.
  • Enter Supply charges in the computer for each patient daily.
  • Prepare any transfer forms needed when transferring patients to other facilities.
  • Discharge patients from the computer system.
  • Greet individuals coming to the unit, provide directions and information and be responsive to needs and requests in a professional manner.
  • Manage the unit's communication systems (telephone, beepers, nurse call, fax, etc.) to facilitate communication between members of the health care team and their clients.
  • Respond to the Nurse Call System, contact nursing personnel as appropriate, and follow through with meeting patient needs.
  • Maintain unit specific documentation as requested, i.e., assignment sheets, temperature logs, etc.
  • Participate in performance and support improvement and risk management activities.
  • Share in the responsibility of meeting standards as defined by the Registered Nurse.
  • Assists with patients on the floor in capacity of a C.N.A. as needed.
  • Complete required continuous training and education, including department specific requirements.
  • Comply with established personal protective equipment requirements necessary for protection against exposure to blood and other potentially infectious body fluids, chemical disinfectants, radiation, and other hazardous substances.
  • Attends meetings and in-service sessions, as directed.
  • Requires regular attendance and punctuality.
  • Performs other assigned duties.
