About The Position

The ER Technician assists nursing staff with patient care throughout the ED course, including assistance in the triage process and direct patient treatment. They are responsible for maintaining supplies, performing technical skills specific to the ED, and may perform the duties of a Ward Clerk. This role involves direct patient interaction, data entry, and patient transport.

Requirements

High School graduate or equivalent.
Strong interpersonal communication skills.
Legible handwriting.
Through education, experience, and/or training, the individual is qualified to work with infant, pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients.
Fluent knowledge of medical terminology.
Current BLS Healthcare Provider card.

Nice To Haves

EMT, Certified Nursing or Medical Assistant preferred.
Experience in data entry or typing preferred.
Previous clerical experience preferred.

Responsibilities

Assists nursing staff with patient care throughout the ED course.
Provides assistance in the triage process.
Provides assistance to nursing/medical personnel in direct patient treatment.
Adheres to standards of aseptic technique.
Performs ongoing audit of supplies in ED department.
Re-supplies ED department on an ongoing basis.
Performs technical skills specific to the ED department.
Performs splinting, application of orthopedic devices.
Performs the duties of the Ward Clerk as needed.
Answers the phone, interacts with ancillary departments to facilitate and ensure completion of patient testing, pages physicians, and completes transfers.
Effectively utilizes Meditech electronic health record.
Assists in the admission process.
Accurately collects and enters patient information, including vital signs.
Transports patients.
Insertion of Intravenous catheters.
Assists patients out of cars as necessary.
