About The Position

The ER Tech is responsible for all basic patient care duties. This includes, but is not limited to, therapeutic treatment as ordered by the physician on duty, operation of laboratory equipment, patient discharge, and education. The role involves triaging patients to determine their treatment location (Emergency Room versus Urgent Care), providing general patient care including therapeutic and diagnostic intervention, and offering age and education-specific education to patients. The ER Tech also ensures a clean work environment, follows company and HIPAA policies, and fosters a friendly and respectful work environment. They provide a customer-focused, friendly, reassuring, and open environment for patients and their families, encouraging participation in healthcare decisions. The position requires accurately interpreting physician instructions, assisting the physician with patient treatment, communicating patient needs and feedback, administering medications, collecting specimens, and conducting laboratory tests. Upholding lab policies and procedures, collaborating with health team members, executing physician orders (including medications, treatments, and IVs), observing and documenting patient responses to medications, preparing specimens, and operating lab equipment are also key responsibilities. The role requires 100% attendance at mandatory skills training yearly, maintaining professional certifications and licenses, completing CEUs and assigned education on time, and attending staff meetings. Patient education and discharge instructions are crucial, as is adherence to infection control and OSHA safety guidelines.

Requirements

  • EMT-B, EMT-P certification or LVN with relevant clinical experience required.
  • Current BLS & ACLS certification (or 60 days upon hire)
  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED).

  • Basic math skills including the ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions.

  • Completion of company provided laboratory testing education and competency.

Responsibilities

  • Triage all patients upon arrival to determine their location of treatment. (Emergency room versus urgent care)
  • Provide general patient care. This includes therapeutic and diagnostic intervention.
  • Provide age and education-specific education to all patients.
  • Assure a clean work environment. This may include duties often reserved for housekeeping services, such as emptying trash, mopping floors, and cleaning counters.
  • Follow all company policies.
  • Follow all HIPAA policies and procedures.
  • Encourage a work environment that is friendly and respectful.
  • Provide patients and their families with a customer-focused, friendly, reassuring, and open environment that encourages patient participation in health care decisions.
  • Accurately interpret a physician’s instructions.

  • Communicate with the physician regarding the patient's needs and client feedback, and the operations coordinator's observation.
  • Administer medications.
  • Collect specimens and conduct laboratory tests
  • Review and uphold lab policies and procedures
  • Collaborate with health team members to ensure the patient's well-being as evidenced by staff/client feedback.
  • Support the efforts of team members
  • Execute physician orders, including administration of medications, treatments, and IVs according to policy and procedure
  • Observe and document the patient's response to pertinent medications.
  • Prepare specimens and operate lab equipment.
  • Review and uphold lab policies and procedures.

  • Participate in any and all certifications of the facility.

  • Complete yearly assigned education on time
  • Attend a minimum of four staff meetings and read and sign all minutes of meetings not attended.
