About The Position

The ER RN works on the Float/Flex Team at St. Joseph Health Madison Hospital, a 25-bed critical access hospital in Madisonville, Texas. The nurse delivers compassionate, high-quality, individualized care and supports patient well-being and recovery. The role requires reliable, positive, patient-focused practice in a fast-paced environment, with sound assessment and critical-thinking skills.

The nurse uses the nursing process to collect relevant patient information, assess needs, formulate nursing diagnoses and goals, plan interventions, and evaluate outcomes. The position includes documenting care according to health system standards, educating patients and families, promoting patient safety and confidentiality, and collaborating with the interdisciplinary team. The nurse also uses research-supported interventions and participates in research activities and opportunities.

Requirements

• Bachelor of Science in Nursing.
• At least one year of RN experience; the posting also specifies 24 months.
• Demonstrated competence in Registered Nurse I performance expectations or satisfaction of experience requirements upon hire.
• Texas Registered Nurse license upon hire.
• Basic Life Support (CPR) within 14 days.

Responsibilities

• Use the nursing process to provide cost-effective, quality-driven, patient-focused care.
• Collect pertinent social, psychological, developmental, and spiritual data from patients, significant others, and health care team members.
• Perform ongoing assessments, formulate nursing diagnoses and goals, plan appropriate interventions, and evaluate their outcomes.
• Document in patient and unit records according to written health system standards and legal and quality requirements.
• Teach and provide information to patients and families about pain management, nutrition, skin integrity, fall prevention, diabetes, disease processes, smoking cessation, and discharge instructions.
• Support patient, hospital, community, and nursing-profession goals and values through cost containment, confidentiality, ethical decision-making, and patient safety.
• Use research-substantiated interventions as appropriate for the patient population.
• Participate in research activities, identify research opportunities, and collaborate with Outcomes managers and the department.
