Position Summary: Jefferies is seeking an Equity Research Associate for its Energy Equity Research team which covers ~40 stocks. In this role, the associate will have the opportunity to analyze industry macro trends and company financials under the direction of senior members of the team. In particular, the associate will work closely with senior team members on Jefferies’ refining equity research coverage. The associate will be responsible for managing industry databases, updating presentations, and maintaining financial models as well as contributing to our flagship North American Energy Weekly report. In addition, the associate will manage updating the Jefferies refining price deck and refining weekly report. The associate will also work closely with the team to support producing reports, including earnings reports, company notes, monthly/weekly publications and initiation reports. Over time, the associate will also be responsible for communicating recommendations to sales, trading and clients.

Requirements

  • Strong academic background, with a focus on accounting, finance, or economics with Bachelor's Degree
  • 1 -2 years experience of financial services experience with a preference for research experience
  • Experience in oil & gas (especially refining) is advantageous
  • Advanced excel & modelling skills are critical
  • Experienced using FactSet and/or Bloomberg
  • Ability to multi-task with strong attention to detail
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a time sensitive environment
  • Ability to work effectively in a team
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

Nice To Haves

  • CFA or progression towards CFA preferred
  • FINRA Series 63, 86 and 87 highly preferred (required within 5 months of hire)

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for associate-level coverage of an array of energy stocks with a focus on US refiners
  • Build and maintain detailed company models and industry databases, including the Jefferies refining price deck
  • Work on recurring energy reports including our flagship North American Energy Weekly report and Refining Weekly report
  • Write first look notes, contribute to longer thematic reports, and company initiations
  • Field questions and communicate with sales and/or clients
  • Maintain relationships with company IR teams.
