About The Position

The Equipment, Vehicle, and Vessel Operator is responsible for safely operating Murphy Maritime’s vessels, tugs, vehicles, trailers, construction equipment, and related machinery in support of marine construction, yard operations, material handling, excavation, pile driving, transportation, mobilization, and demobilization. This is primarily an operator role. However, when operator services are not needed, this position may also assist with deck hand duties, dock building, material handling, yard support, general labor, or other project-related work.

Requirements

  • Experience operating construction equipment, vehicles, vessels, or similar machinery
  • Ability to safely load, secure, transport, stage, and handle materials and equipment
  • Ability to perform daily inspections and report unsafe conditions, damage, defects, maintenance needs
  • Ability to work safely around water, barges, docks, cranes, suspended loads, excavation areas, pile driving operations, vessels, vehicles, and active jobsites
  • Ability to perform physical labor when not operating equipment
  • Ability to follow direction, communicate clearly, and work as part of a crew
  • Commitment to company safety standards, PPE requirements, customer property protection, and professional conduct

Nice To Haves

  • Valid CDL-A license
  • CDL endorsements
  • Applicable marine operation credentials, licenses, or endorsements
  • Forklift or telehandler certification
  • OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 certification
  • CPR/AED and First Aid certification
  • Rigging and signaling training
  • Experience operating vessels, tugs, barges, excavators, skid steers, telehandlers, forklifts, or pile driving equipment
  • Equipment transport and load securement experience
  • Marine construction experience
  • Basic mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting ability

Responsibilities

  • Safely operate assigned vessels, vehicles, trailers, equipment, attachments, and machinery.
  • Support marine construction work through transportation, mobilization, demobilization, excavation, pile driving support, material handling, staging, loading, unloading, and site preparation.
  • Operate boats, tugs, barges, trucks, trailers, and construction equipment as trained and assigned.
  • Load, balance, tie down, secure, and transport equipment, tools, materials, and attachments.
  • Complete pre-use inspections and report damage, defects, leaks, unsafe conditions, or maintenance concerns.
  • Assist with fueling, greasing, cleaning, fluid checks, and basic equipment or vessel care.
  • Support crews with deck hand work, dock building, barge loading, yard work, jobsite setup, cleanup, and general labor when needed.
  • Follow company safety policies, PPE requirements, and jobsite procedures, including wearing a PFD when working near or over water.
  • Participate in toolbox talks, safety discussions, and hazard identification.
  • Stop work and notify supervision when unsafe conditions are observed.
