About The Position

As the Equipment Technician 3, you perform journey-level inspection, troubleshooting, diagnosis, servicing, and major and minor mechanical repairs on a wide range of equipment used in highway maintenance, heavy and industrial/commercial operations, or motorized farm work. You carry out preventative maintenance, operate shop equipment as part of your daily responsibilities, and may order, requisition, and maintain an inventory of parts.

Requirements

  • High school graduation or possession of a GED certificate and three (3) years of experience in the performance of preventative maintenance and repairs assisting a journey level mechanic.
  • Successful completion of vocational technical training in heavy equipment and/or industrial/commercial equipment repair, including welding may substitute year for year for up to two (2) years of experience, or one (1) year of experience as a journey-level mechanic maintaining and repairing heavy-duty equipment, or journey-level standing as a heavy equipment and/or industrial/commercial mechanic as demonstrated by completion of a recognized apprenticeship; or by journey-level standing as recognized by a labor union.
  • Must have, or be able to obtain by time of hire, a valid driver’s license and meet requirements in accordance with SPPM 7.10 and departmental driving standards.
  • Possession of, or ability to obtain within six (6) months of hire, an Authorized Emission Specialist certification.
  • Possession of, or ability to obtain within six (6) months of hire, a Motor Vehicle Air Conditioning certification.

Nice To Haves

  • Front end alignment experience using modern alignment machines.
  • Possession of, or ability to obtain at time of hire, a Class A Commercial Driver’s License ( CDL ).
  • Oxygen/acetylene and Arc and/or wire feed welding experience.
  • Three (3) years experience as a heavy equipment mechanic.
