About The Position

The Equipment Specialist I utilizes mechanical and data analysis skills to support production and the engineering team to reduce defects, increase productivity, and create a safe environment. This person will utilize PDCA cycles to identify problems, investigate, and troubleshoot. Operation and understanding of the machine must be understood for recovery and verification of the machine after being worked on. The Equipment Specialist I will learn various machines and will work to be able to act on 60-80% of mechanical problems that occur. Working closely with engineering, this person will provide information, data, and/or support to implement countermeasures to machines.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED (General Education Degree) and/or two years technical training
  • Computer skills and experience with Microsoft Suite Programs, Tableau and MES.
  • Must be accurate and a detail-oriented team player.
  • Demonstration of mechanical aptitude and understanding of generic parts, electrical, hydraulics and mechanical equipment.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
  • Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
  • Must have working-level knowledge of the English language, including reading, writing, and speaking English.

Nice To Haves

  • 2-year Associates degree in electronic technology or equivalent experience
  • 2-3 years manufacturing experience with deep understanding of manufacturing equipment, programming, maintenance, and repair
  • Experience in electrical maintenance
  • Experience interpreting PLC ladder logic
  • JMP/Python or other data analysis tool experience
  • Understands basic lean 6 sigma principles
  • Has experience in welding, fabricating, repair or similar work
  • Data analysis to identify issues and implement countermeasure immediately followed by permanent corrective action
  • Can interpret mechanical or electrical drawings

Responsibilities

  • Follows all company and departmental policies and procedures.
  • Maintains active communication with management and other employees about all job-related concerns and informs the Lead/Supervisor when problems occur.
  • Complies with safety regulations and maintains clean and orderly work areas.
  • Aids in root cause analysis following the PDCA process.
  • Regularly checks data to identify problems and to verify actions.
  • Uses graphs and basic Excel skills to interpret data.
  • Uses machine knowledge to identify mechanisms which can cause defects, alarms, etc.
  • Understands basic mechanisms of common mechanical parts within machines for example sensors, bearings, gearboxes, linear guides, conveyors, etc.
  • Demonstrates the application of precision tools like dial indicator, caliper, micrometer, etc.
  • Routinely performs tasks like installation of improvement parts, taking measurements, repairing machines, reducing defects or alarms, improving productivity, etc.
  • Communicates with production and maintenance teams to coordinate work.
  • Maintains complete and accurate records of all work done on the equipment and machines.
  • Communicates with team members promptly and accurately.
  • Completes pass-down of unfinished tasks to another shift accurately and informatively.
  • Provides training or completes audits when needed.
  • Takes direction and can execute tasks.
  • Other duties may be assigned.
