About The Position

CMI is looking for an experienced Equipment Sales Representative to join our sales team. This position represents a unique opportunity to step into a well-established sales territory following the departure of a salesperson who has served CMI and our customers for more than 30 years. Over that time, strong customer relationships, extensive industry knowledge, and a significant book of business have been developed throughout the territory. With that level of experience leaving the position, we are looking for someone who can hit the ground running. This is not an entry-level sales role. The successful candidate should already understand heavy equipment sales, territory management, customer relationship development, and the construction equipment industry. The right person will have the experience and confidence to take ownership of an established territory, build relationships with long-standing CMI customers, develop new business, and continue growing the foundation that has been built over the past three decades.

Requirements

  • Previous heavy equipment, construction equipment, truck, rental, or closely related sales experience.
  • A demonstrated history of building customer relationships and generating sales.
  • Strong knowledge of construction equipment and its applications.
  • The ability to identify customer needs and recommend appropriate equipment solutions.
  • Experience managing a sales territory and developing new accounts.
  • Strong prospecting, negotiation, closing, and relationship-management skills.
  • The ability to work independently, prioritize opportunities, and manage their own schedule.
  • Strong communication and follow-through.
  • A professional, customer-focused approach and an understanding that long-term relationships are critical to equipment sales.
  • The ability to work effectively with parts, service, rental, and administrative teams to support customers.
  • Comfort working with contractors, equipment operators, mechanics, business owners, purchasing personnel, and senior management.
  • Strong organizational and computer skills, including experience with CRM, quoting, or dealership management systems.
  • A valid driver’s license and the ability and willingness to travel throughout the assigned territory.

Nice To Haves

  • Several years of successful heavy equipment or construction equipment sales experience.
  • An established network within the construction, mining, trucking, municipal, or heavy equipment industries.
  • Experience selling both new and used equipment.
  • Knowledge of equipment financing, trade-ins, valuations, and deal structure.
  • Experience working for an equipment dealership, manufacturer, distributor, or rental company.
  • Familiarity with the Alaska construction and heavy equipment market.
  • Experience selling equipment to customers in remote or challenging operating environments.

Responsibilities

  • Manage and grow an established equipment sales territory.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with existing customers while actively pursuing new business opportunities.
  • Work directly with contractors, construction companies, municipalities, mines, owner/operators, and other equipment users to understand their operational needs.
  • Recommend equipment solutions based on customer applications, job requirements, operating conditions, and budgets.
  • Sell new and used construction and heavy equipment represented by CMI.
  • Develop equipment quotes, proposals, trade evaluations, and sales agreements.
  • Maintain regular contact with customers and actively manage sales opportunities from initial conversation through closing and delivery.
  • Prospect for new customers and identify opportunities to expand CMI’s presence within the territory.
  • Conduct customer visits, jobsite visits, equipment demonstrations, and product presentations.
  • Maintain a strong working knowledge of CMI’s equipment lines, specifications, applications, pricing, financing options, and competitive products.
  • Monitor industry activity, upcoming projects, customer equipment needs, and competitive activity within the territory.
  • Coordinate with CMI’s Rental, Parts, Service, and Transportation teams to provide customers with complete equipment solutions and strong after-sale support.
  • Maintain accurate customer, quote, opportunity, and sales information in company systems.
  • Follow up after equipment delivery to ensure customer satisfaction and identify future opportunities.
  • Represent CMI professionally at customer locations, jobsites, trade shows, industry events, and community functions.
  • Travel throughout the assigned territory as necessary to maintain customer relationships and develop new business.
  • Perform other sales-related duties as assigned.
