About The Position

The Equipment & OTR Mechanic is responsible for maintaining, diagnosing, repairing, and keeping the company’s fleet of heavy equipment, commercial vehicles, trailers, and mobile equipment in safe and reliable operating condition. This position supports the company’s precast concrete manufacturing and delivery operations by minimizing equipment downtime and ensuring trucks, trailers, loaders, cranes, and other equipment are available when needed. This is a hands-on position requiring an individual who can work independently, prioritize repairs, respond to breakdowns, and take ownership of the company’s equipment fleet.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of heavy equipment/diesel mechanic experience.
  • Experience maintaining trucks and trailers.
  • DOT inspection experience.
  • Experience with computerized engine diagnostic systems.
  • Working knowledge of hydraulic, electrical, mechanical, and pneumatic systems.
  • Experience with cranes, loaders, or other heavy mobile equipment.
  • Experience with preventative maintenance software or fleet management systems.

Nice To Haves

  • CDL Class A license preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Perform scheduled preventive maintenance on trucks, trailers, heavy equipment and mobile equipment.
  • Inspect equipment regularly and identify potential mechanical problems before failures occur.
  • Perform oil, filter, lubrication, cooling system, brake, tire, battery, and other routine maintenance.
  • Maintain accurate service and repair records in software program.
  • Diagnose and repair diesel engines, transmissions, drivetrains, differentials, brakes, suspension systems, steering systems, and related components.
  • Diagnose and repair hydraulic systems, pumps, cylinders, valves, and hydraulic controls.
  • Troubleshoot electrical and electronic systems using diagnostic equipment, wiring diagrams, meters, and scan tools.
  • Diagnose and repair starting, charging, lighting, and electrical systems.
  • Perform welding, fabrication, cutting, and/or basic machining when necessary.
  • Replace and rebuild mechanical and hydraulic components.
  • Perform emergency repairs and troubleshooting to minimize equipment downtime.
  • Road-test vehicles and equipment following repairs when appropriate.
  • Maintain and repair company-owned over-the-road trucks and trailers.
  • Perform inspections and repairs related to DOT-regulated equipment.
  • Inspect brakes, tires, lights, suspension, steering, fifth wheels, air systems, and other safety-critical components.
  • Assist with maintaining equipment in compliance with applicable DOT and safety requirements.
  • Coordinate outside repairs when specialized work is required.
  • Work with drivers to identify equipment concerns and recurring problems.
  • Identify parts and materials required for repairs.
  • Work with management to order parts and control repair costs.
  • Maintain appropriate inventory of commonly used maintenance parts and supplies.
  • Track recurring repairs and recommend replacement of unreliable equipment.
  • Help evaluate repair-versus-replace decisions.
  • Maintain accurate maintenance documentation.
