About The Position

The Equipment Operator position is responsible for learning the routine operation of all earth-moving equipment used by the Company and achieving entry-level operating proficiency within three months. This role involves performing minor repairs and general maintenance on earth-moving equipment, including greasing, oiling, refueling, and assisting with major repairs. The operator will also perform work of other classifications when not operating earth-moving equipment and assist in duties of higher classifications to qualify for promotion. The position may require working in the field without direct supervision and may involve handling hazardous waste, with training provided by the Company to meet regulatory requirements. Additionally, any applicant transferring into the department or filling this position from the outside will be required to provide after-hours and weekend emergency coverage on a rotating basis. This is a DOT safety-sensitive position, and applicants transferring from non-safety-sensitive roles will need to pass a pre-employment drug screen.

Requirements

  • Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
  • Elementary knowledge of gasoline and diesel motors and automotive equipment.
  • Some experience in operation and repair of construction & automotive equipment.
  • Good degree of mechanical ability and knowledge of earth-moving equipment.
  • CDL B license and a good driving record.
  • Aptitude and skill to operate all Distribution Division equipment and tools in a safe and fully satisfactory manner.
  • Knowledge of the layout of the streets within the territory served by the Company.
  • Ability to perform the duties of other classifications and to assist crew when not operating earth-moving equipment.
