About The Position

Performs landscaping tasks and operates a variety of small engine equipment. Work includes chemical application, and general landscape maintenance and installation. This position operates various types of equipment at Charlotte Douglas International Airport. Equipment operated includes mowers, skid steer, dingo, water truck, small motorized equipment, and chemical sprayer.

Requirements

  • High School Graduate or Equivalent plus one year of experience
  • CDL A or B, depending on the area of assignment
  • Valid CDL-B required with no more than 6 points.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a City driving permit.
  • Must be able to read and write sufficiently to complete records and reports.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
  • Ability to communicate in a professional and positive manner with airport tenants and the public.
  • Ability to work other shifts and overtime when required.
  • Must be able to lift and carry up to 50lbs.
  • Work involves sitting, standing, bending, walking, driving, climbing, lifting, shoveling, pushing/pulling, carrying, twisting, reaching, and kneeling/squatting.
  • Must have sufficient physical strength and ability to operate manual and automatic vehicles.

Nice To Haves

  • High School graduation/GED and at least one year of experience operating one or more pieces of equipment mentioned previously, or if no high school diploma/GED, three years’ experience required.
  • One to three years’ experience in the operation of one or more of the pieces of equipment mentioned previously.

Responsibilities

  • Sprays weeds and treats for pests.
  • Performs routine and special landscape maintenance.
  • Installs plant material and maintains landscape areas.
  • Operates small engine equipment such as chainsaws, string trimmers, and blowers.
  • Operates heavy equipment and trucks such as F550 dump truck, skid steer, dingo, truck with trailer, and chemical sprayer.
  • Inspects assigned equipment for readiness and safety.
  • Completes related records and reports.
  • Performs related manual labor.
