About The Position

Operates a wide variety of construction equipment and motorized wheeled vehicles including commercial trucks and tractors over 25,000 lbs. to provide utilities, general excavation, and construction maintenance support. Performs manual labor for general maintenance and landscape construction tasks, including shoveling, paving, catch basin minor repairs, cleaning, tamping, snow removal, and other duties that apply. Promptly reports unsafe conditions or damage to campus landscape/hardscape, equipment, or facilities. Subject to call-in twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week to handle emergencies, especially snow events. Subject to shift changes and extended working hours (including nights, early mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays) to meet seasonal work demands. Subject to working in weather related extremes of heat and cold for extended periods. May come into contact with sewage and dead animals. Regular exposure to bees and pollen. This position is covered by the UAW Collective Bargaining Agreement. At the end of the probationary period employees will be required to pay union dues per article 1 of the agreement. This is a n Endowed, union position within the UAW. The starting pay rate is $27.13/hour. Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • Minimum of three years’ experience in the construction field, and related equipment operation, to include a minimum of one year’s experience working around underground utilities, operating motorized construction and snowplow equipment
  • Must have and maintain a valid US driver’s license; may be to operate a motor vehicle (your own) vehicle or Cornell-owned) to travel to/from job sites
  • CDLB license or must obtain within 6 months of hire.
  • Must maintain a current DOT physical, pass a pre-employment drug test and be subject to random drug and alcohol testing.
  • Ability to cultivate and develop inclusive working relationships with students, faculty, staff, and community members.

Nice To Haves

  • Associates Degree in Construction Technology desirable
  • Formal training in construction technologies, building trades or equipment operation, helpful
  • Current CDL license preferred
