About The Position

This position is responsible for operating a variety of light and heavy equipment for the maintenance of grounds and facilities. The role involves operating equipment such as tractors with various attachments, forklifts, mowers, edgers, lawn vacuums, leaf rakes, trucks, garden trailers, front-end loaders, and street sweepers. Duties include cutting lawns, removing debris, applying fertilizers and pesticides, performing pick-up and delivery work, hauling debris, and maintaining paved areas. The operator will also perform minor servicing and adjustments on light equipment, assist in athletic field maintenance and lawn renovation, and perform various manual labor tasks. Additionally, the role involves assisting with supply and equipment orders and deliveries, maintaining inventories and records, and learning new technologies. A key aspect of the role is to participate in District/College efforts to increase diversity and address student achievement gaps, fostering a welcoming and inclusive environment.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Any combination of training and experience equivalent to one (1) year operating and maintaining various light and heavy equipment used in the maintenance of grounds and facilities.

Nice To Haves

  • Minimum of two (2) years of experience operating and maintaining light and heavy equipment used for maintenance of grounds and facilities.

Responsibilities

  • Operates a variety of light to heavy equipment including tractors with various attachments, forklifts, mowers, edges, lawn vacuums, leaf rakes and other grounds-keeping equipment in the performance of grounds keeping duties.
  • Cuts lawns, removes debris, applies fertilizers and pesticides as directed.
  • Operates trucks, garden trailers and front-end loaders in performing pick up and delivery work, and in hauling debris.
  • Operates street sweepers in maintaining paved areas on a campus.
  • Adjusts, lubricates and performs minor servicing work on light equipment.
  • Assists in the maintenance of athletic fields and lawn renovation.
  • Performs a variety of manual labor tasks as required.
  • Assists in ordering and delivering of supplies and equipment as necessary; maintains inventories and related records.
  • Maintains routine records related to work performed and equipment and vehicle servicing.
  • Learns and applies emerging technologies and advances as necessary to perform duties in an efficient, organized, and timely manner.
  • Participate in District/College efforts to increase the diversity of faculty and staff and to address student achievement gaps; active assistance in the creation of a welcoming and inclusive work and educational environment; attend and participate in diversity, equity and inclusion trainings and events.
  • Performs related duties as assigned.
