About The Position

The Equipment Operator operates light- to medium-weight equipment to perform park and grounds maintenance, debris and refuse removal, excavation, and material hauling. Equipment may include slope mowers, skid steers, dump trucks, tractors with mowers or blades, stake-body trucks, chippers, stump removers, front-end loaders, backhoes, and tractor trailers. The operator inspects and services assigned equipment, makes minor repairs, identifies malfunctions, and operates equipment with extreme caution. The role may also involve operating other equipment temporarily and using hand and powered tools.

The position works 100% on-site and outdoors in all types of weather, with exposure to temperature extremes, heights, noise, mechanical and electrical hazards, fumes, dust, and gas vapors. Work may take place in trenches or ditches and sometimes indoors. The schedule is Monday through Friday, 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., with overtime as needed.

Requirements

• At least six months of experience operating and servicing designated equipment.
• Knowledge of operating procedures and servicing requirements for assigned equipment.
• Knowledge of applicable traffic laws, ordinances, and regulations, and of work hazards and safety precautions.
• Skill in operating and servicing assigned equipment safely.
• Ability to make minor operating adjustments and repairs and recognize equipment deficiencies.
• Ability to perform manual labor and communicate orally and in writing, read and write, and follow oral and written instructions.
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees and the public.
• Must possess a valid Class B/CDL driver's license with a good driving record, or obtain a Class B/CDL license within six months of employment. A valid Class B/CDL from another state with a good driving record will be considered.
• If becoming a Texas resident, must obtain a valid Texas driver's license within 30 days of residency.
• Selected applicant will be subject to a background investigation and drug/alcohol screening.
• Must be available Monday through Friday, 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., and for overtime as needed.

Nice To Haves

• High school graduation or equivalent is preferred.
• Experience in landscaping or lawn maintenance is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Operate assigned light- to medium-weight equipment, including slope mowers and other listed vehicles and machinery.
• Mow grass in parks; remove stumps and debris; collect refuse; excavate; and haul materials.
• Inspect and service equipment, make minor repairs or operating adjustments, and report malfunctions or deficiencies.
• Operate equipment safely around traffic, construction sites, and work areas.
• Use hand tools and other tools, including pneumatic tools, chainsaws, jackhammers, lawn mowers, tillers, and ropes.
• Dispose of waste, trim and remove limbs, clean drains, and pick up trash in parks.
• Assist co-workers and perform other duties as required.
