About The Position

Our Distribution group is seeking an experienced Equipment Operator to join their growing team in Sherwood Park, AB. This role involves supporting new shallow underground utility construction work in residential subdivisions around Edmonton, primarily operating a trackhoe and backhoe. Valard Construction is Canada’s premier utility contractor, providing comprehensive EPC+ (engineering, procurement, construction) and maintenance services to various industries including utilities, independent power producers, mining, oil and gas, and rural electric associations. They are part of Quanta Services, the largest electrical power contractor in North America.

Requirements

3 years experience operating trackhoe and backhoe
Ground Disturbance Level 2 certification
Must have a valid Class-5 driver’s license and an acceptable drivers abstract
Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs, work outside for extended periods of time
Must be flexible to working varying hours
Strong team member with a positive attitude
Applicants must have legal authorization to work in Canada with no restrictions

Responsibilities

Operate equipment in a safe, efficient and appropriate manor
Understanding of soil mechanics and work with geotechnical engineers on density testing of soils
Be aware of proper rigging equipment and procedures for lifting materials
Complete daily equipment inspection forms
Participate in daily Safety Meetings and Hazard Assessments
Participate in daily work planning schedule meetings
Have a sound understanding of issues relating to ground disturbance
Assist ground crew in duties out of equipment when there is no operating work
Maintain good housekeeping practices
Other duties as assigned
