About The Position

The Equipment Operator performs skilled and semi-skilled labor and operates light/heavy equipment needed to perform road maintenance and construction of local, county, and state highways, roads, and bridges.

Requirements

High school degree.
Multiple years of construction and/or skilled labor abilities, and good communication skills.
Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) w/ A, B, C, & N Endorsements.
MSHA certifications.
Able to fulfill physical demands, sensory demands (seeing and hearing) and cognitive demands (concentration, conceptualization, memorization) of the job.
Ability to understand and follow directions for general work assignments.
Read, write and perform simple arithmetic.
Must pass pre-employment physical, drug test and background check.

Responsibilities

Fills cracks, seals chips, mows ditches, paints stripes, installs and repairs road sign, picks up debris, repairs beam guards/cable guards, ditching, repairs gravel shoulders, removes/cuts trees, and maintains/repairs concrete and asphalt roads and bridges.
Operates asphalt plant, asphalt road paving, operates gravel pit with crushing equipment, replaces culverts, and plans/parks projects (masonry, carpentry, and excavation/grading).
Operates snowplow/salters, plow controllers, salt brine making/hauling, and installs/removes snow fences.
Performs simple, mechanical maintenance activities on Highway Department equipment including, but not limited to, tri-axle trucks, 5-yard trucks, loaders, backhoes, rollers, mowers, and/or skid steers, and ensure clean, proper operations. Additionally, maintenance, parts ordering and repairs required for Asphalt Plant & Gravel Pit Crusher operations.
Cleans lunchroom/bathrooms, and grounds maintenance.
