About The Position

This dynamic role is responsible for the daily operation of equipment that is required to transport materials, personnel, and tools to job sites to facilitate the safe and efficient construction and/or maintenance to electrical systems for residential, commercial or industrial establishments. This position also consists of assisting with the entire task associated with construction and/maintenance of an electrical utility system. The ideal candidate will have experience operating heavy equipment and possess a strong work ethic.

Requirements

  • Must be able to operate heavy equipment (digger, trencher, bucket, etc.)
  • Must have knowledge of first aid and CPR
  • Overtime required
  • Valid Commercial Driver's License and Medical Examiner's Certificate of Qualification required
  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED); three years experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Responsibilities

  • Must know detail specifications and limitations of equipment being operated.
  • Drives truck to and from work site.
  • Operates winch, derrick, hole digger, trencher and backhoe and all other accessory equipment.
  • Reports needed equipment repairs and the need for additional tools.
  • Maintain acceptable levels of standard materials on truck.
  • Maintain adequate first aid equipment and properly operating fire extinguisher on truck.
  • Ground vehicle in accordance with Cooperative's safety policy at site.
  • Refuels equipment and inspects for DOT standards.
  • Assist with ground work while linemen are performing their duties.
  • Assist in installing splices on de-energized U/G secondary and primary conductors.
  • Use derrick truck or trencher in the orderly and safe placement of pole mounted and urd pads or equipment.
  • Assist in terminating U/G cables in transformers.
  • Assist in the installation of streetlights and related equipment.
  • Assist in framing and setting of poles.
  • Perform necessary task to accomplish digging and placement of anchors.
  • Assist in pulling guys.
  • Drive ground rods.
  • Load and unload transformers and other material.
  • Assist in patrolling lines during outages.
  • Assist in safe roadside work zone set up.
  • Ability to visually identify other utility’s placement and identifying markers.
  • Start development of knowledge of, electrical system hazard recognition.
  • Start development of knowledge of safe construction work practices.
  • General knowledge of all SSEMC OHD/UG framing and construction specifications
  • Knowledge of the required directional hand signals.
